my webcam
i need your advice folks....
i've been running a webcam on the webcam page for a while now, ever since i downloaded the program to do so. now i wonder sometimes whish is preferred... i leave my webcam running 24/7, with a 60 second upload rate. it uploads a pic every minute whether i'm there in front of my machine or not. i see alot of other people will just take a snap every day or three and leave that up there until they get ready to take the next one, but if they're idle, they disable uploading... so what do you folks prefer? should i continue to leave my cam running even if i'm not in front of my machine, or would you rather not see the shelf behind my computer desk when i'm not away? |
just update it when you're on.
otherwise, it would be the same as not updating. (we'd be seeing the exact same thing) |
Gimme the shelf man - this way if someone is breaking in we can all watch them steal your comp LIVE!

Just update when you're on. What's the point to continually updating pictures of an empty room?
|
Phred, I like you man. You helped me a ton with the photo hosting problem. But I can't be watching just you. Turn it on when your honey stops by for a visit. (Although I do like the idea of watching crooks ransacking...you could call us all in as witnesses)
|
Try pointing the cam out the window so we can at least see cars go by, birds, lightning, mushroom clouds, etc.
|
I have yet to find a webcam where there is actually someone there, so I'm voting you only update when you are active. It seems pointless, unless you are robbed three times a week. :)
|
Leave it updating
|
Update it all the time. And have a small clock (either digital or analog) in the picture somewhere. That way we can yell at you when the camera is wrong.
"Oye Estupido!! Your clock says 7pm when its clearly 11am!! Dumass!!" And thats pronounced DUMOIS, its french. |
I like the idea of full-time updating. Never know what might be going on while your not at home. I also like the suggestion of the clock or looking out the window to see what's going on in your neighborhood.

Your so damn cute phred I don't care what you do with it, as long as you leave it on! |
Sorry phred, I'm a clutterphobe and don't want to look at your shelf anymore . I want to come over and straighten it up. When you are away watching Adult Swim, turn the camera off or on something else, please!
And cheese and JStrider, please have some mercy. |
awww... you flatter me nikki... don't stop.
as to my windows, teh only window in my computer room opens to the stairs, where people are constantly going up and down to their apartments... i'm not keen on leaving a window open so any passer by can see our computer equipment... that just invites theft. i'll figure something out with this damn cam... i'm lazy, so i'll probably just end up leaving it on unless i feel some strange urge to upload and leave some weird-ass picture of myself. |
Phred, a friend and I are probly going to stick a webcam (somehow) that watches his fish tank 24/7, and when he's not home we'll jack up the bandwidth and let her go. Get a little betta and stick the camera on it while your gone!
Or go for a nice big saltwater setup, though you may wanna flush a few grand down the pot before you do to prepare. |
You can act out movie scenes for us... that would help pass the time... :)

I've had the same idea, although I have the saltwater aquarium already, the webcam, the bandwidth...so all I need is the program to upload the pics and the webspace to host it. I wouldn't mind doing it if enough people are interested. Just need the program and someplace to upload the pics to. If anyone has suggestions on the software or webspace, let me know. |
