If you asked me eight years ago, the answer would have been electric.
If you asked me six years ago, when I went to college, the answer would have been "shave?" If you asked me one month ago, the answer would have been electric again. But lately the electrics seem to hurt more and more - kinda like if my answer had been "tweezers." So I switched, for the very first time, to disposable razors. Works like a charm.

Norelco Electric. Although I do admit not as good a conventional razor.

I have an electric razor, Braun 8995, for day to day shave and an M3 turbo for when i fancy having a wet shave (a dry shave just never gets that close for me).
I have tried the M3 power version, but it tore my face to shreds, i havn't tried fusion yet though. My absoloute favourite razor was a wilkinson sword with a bendy dual blade head. It was awesome, got into all the tight places and had this solid metal handle that gave the impression you had a good bit of kit, instead of just some poxy plastic rubbish.

Both. Electric to trim longer hair, razor to clean shave.

I use a double edge safety razor. I'll probably eventually start using a straight edge. As for the brush; I'd recommend a badger hair brush. It really makes shaving a joy.

As for men's razors that fit Venus cartridges, that would be the entire line of Mach 3 razors. I used to use Mach 3s instead of Venus cartridges on my Venus constantly. I would say they're about the same as each other.

I use a good set of clippers. If I shave too close, I get horrible razor bumps and ingrown hairs, and then I would have to tweeze them out.
I've had people recommend Magic Shave, but I think I'd rather lather my face with boiling battery acid than use that stuff ever again.

The problem I have with regular razors is that I don't want to shave somewhere by mistake and have more hair grow out, thicker on top of that. I seem to have gotten used to electrics, to the point where they're more accurate for me.
I'm going to try and start using my fusion more often now lol. |

I have a 2 blade gilette, but will probably go back to a Mach 3 soon. I also want to get a boar's hair brush, never used manual lather, but surely it's better than canned stuff.

Hi, newbie here.
I shaved with an electric (Norelco's) for 30 years until my wife bought me an old-fashioned razor shave at Art of Shaving in Las Vegas for our wedding anniversary: I was completely astonished by the comfort and closeness (didn't have to shave for 2 days!). Now I use traditional shaving soaps and creams, a good badger hair shaving brush, and an (adjustable) single-blade safety razor: Shaving's gone from an annoying, sometimes painful chore to a pleasant, almost zen-like pleasure. |

Electric was never close enough for me. I've heard they've improved significantly in recent years but now it's just habit.

Straight Razor. Badger hair brush, and a mug and soap. My father taught me to shave that way, and I got his gold and ivory handled straight razor when he passed away. I tried easier things, but nothing was as nice.
Also, I sure as hell listened to my dad, having seen him walk around the house stropping a razor every morning. I can only assume my daughter does the same .

Add another one for the Straight Razor. Super Badger brush, with soap and ceramic mug. I haven't had a single ingrown hair since I started, and it really keeps my face free of acne as well.
Here's my setup: The second picture is my travel setup. The brush stores inside the stainless steel handle. |

Since I go to a military school, I have to shave everyday, so it's an electric razor in the morning since it doesn't take very long. But when I need a great, close shave for special occasions, inspections, church, etc., I usually go with a Mach 3 and shaving gel for sensitive skin.

Point taken - will avoid the straight razor!
I forgot to add that using hair clippers to trim your beard and moustache is MUCH better than using the flip-up trimmer on an electric razor. Quote:

Since my initial post in this thread I have switched to using a Merkur Futur double edge razor with a matching badger brush and good shave cream. The razor and brush are way more expensive, but the blades are way cheaper, I get a better shave, and my skin isn't irritated anymore.

I don't shave, but I do use a Braun beard trimmer to keep things nice and neat. I never did like shaving, and I'm too lazy to want to do it much anyhow, so it actually worked out well that I look better with a beard than shaven....

I use a mach 3, but I've been considering getting something from: http://www.classicshaving.com for awhile - I'm just never quite happy with the shave I get from any of the razors I've tried.
