I'm getting fat.

I was hoping you guys could help me out.
I have been slowly getting a beer belly the last few years and now I find it to be repulsive to look at. I'm skinny in the rest of my body (5'11" 160 lbs.) except for my stomach. I don't want to lose any weight, I just don't want this beer belly. Does anyone know of the good way to get rid of this quickly without losing weight?

Stop drinking the beer ;) Sit ups would probably be your best chance at losing the belly but it could make you lose some weight. If you don't want to lose weight than maybe some weight lifting to produce more muscle mass, which would keep your weight the same. I'm no expert on the subject though, but that is my two cents.

There are big, beefy, ripped dudes out there who'll drink their weight in beer every day. Just gotta keep excercizing.

Actually drinking is extremely fattening, and disrupts restorative sleep patterns that help build muscle. I have the damn gut to prove the former!
Anyways, best bet is to grab yourself an ab roller (yes, I know, it *seems* like junk, but is the general equivelent of some of the exercises we do in the gym). It will tighten the muscles it right up. There is *no* way to just get rid of fat from your stomach, you need to remove it from everywhere.
Diet boy!

You should try this then:

Ab Adder 2000

it worked for me :)

ab exercises alone will not do the trick. You need to cut back on the calories, or start doing more aerobic activity (running, swimming, jogging, biking, blading). A combination of the two will see you faster gains. Add some light weight training into the mix, and you'll be working off the fat and gaining muscle.

Good luck.

Agree with the others on running and more importantly diet. Our society is not in tune with healthy eating so it is very hard. It only gets harder with age as your metabolism slows. Here's a few diet tricks:

Make sure that the food on your plate is in small enough portions that it does not touch other food.

Drink a large glass of water before eating so you feel fuller.

Take a walk when you get the urge to snack.

And of course, don't drink beer, or at least switch to light.

I agree with others, just doing situps may acutally give you more of a belly as your ab muscles get larger beneath your stomach.

I understand that a healthy diet is best, but I do not want to cut back on the amount of food I eat. I really don't want to lose any weight. I don't think I can afford to. I really haven't gained any weight in probably 15 years. The only place on my body that has fat is my stomach.
I didn't think that just doing sit-ups will get rid of the fat. I think I will try to do some bicycling or crap like that.

Otaku 06-19-2003 07:15 PM

get your heartbeat to about 65-80% of maximum, and keep it there (obviously buildup to this if you are out of shape) by bicycling, jogging, skiing, rowing or whatever .

This will burn the most fat on your body (yes you will lose weight too). Combine this form of exercise with some weights and you will find that fat becomes muscle.

You should then start to increase in weight, but not belly size

You can't target specific body fat, so you have to run. Running will mean you'll lose body fat on other places in your body.

I hate to tell you, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You are going to have to exercise(cardio workouts and light weight training). You are going to have to cut back on your eating, ,a great book to get is Change One(I think Sam's has it). It has ways of changing bits and pieces of your life to lose weight. I would just got back on eating out and snacking too much plus some exercise and you should lose the weight.

Yeah, doing ab exercises won't do it friend. Because what that does is build up your abs, but see, it doesn't change the fact that you got fat in front of em. You gotta burn off that flab, and that is done with cardio. And diet couldn't hurt, but since you don't wanna lose weight, then just do lots of cardio(running, cycling, jumping rope) and it should come off.

chew gum instead of snacking
