Help with the best directions:Toronto to Saint John
I am planning a trip to Bridgewater Nova Scotia, and want to get there the fastest route possible:
Toronto - Montreal, then south to Sherbrooke, and take adirect route to Bangor then to Saint John. Does anybody have advice? I want to avoid the south shore of Quebec as I have done that twice, and besides falling asleep driving, I want to give the family something new to see. Once in Saint John I have to consider the ferry to Digby (mucho $$$) or driving around the Bay of Fundy... Any suggestions will be welcomed!!! |
I must say I'm a bit jealous. I dont' have any practical advice because I haven't been past Quebec City, myself.
If I were you, I would certainly do New England. A good friend of mine (we both live in Toronto as well) loves New England... he said it was rather quaint. :) |
I now think that going to Montreal is too far out of my way. I think Toronto to Cornwall, then over to the US, and take hwy 2 as straight across to Calais Maine as possible. Its about 1200 KM.

I assume you've tried www.mapquest.com -
Toronto to Bridgwater -using the shortest distance vs shortest time ends up being 985 miles. and it goes thru Vermont... the shortest time is about 1200 miles and is pretty much all highway |
yes, well actually i used Google maps, but I think it would be the same result. The thing is, I don't know if the roads are good (i.e. fast) highways. It may actually be and easier, if longer, drive to take the TransCanada via Quebec.
Thanks for the measures... back to the mapping and see if i can match your distance. |
I ended up choosing the TransCanada - boring, but easy to drive, and convenient.
So far, Toronto to Drummondville Quebec, took about 5 hrs. Staying at the Best Western in Drummondville. Pleasant surprise: although I booked the Best Western online yesterday for a low price of $120 (taxes in) it ended up as only $89 taxes in at check in. wow. |
Sounds like a great trip to take... sadly, I've never driven beyond Montreal so I don't have any advice.
If Lucifer were online more this time of year I am sure he'd have some advice. Have a great trip! |
thanks Charlatan, I am in Fredericton now, at the Delta. (where incidentally they failed to charge me $15 for the rollaway bed. And since there was no hairdryer in the room, i get a complimentary night! This could be a trend!)
I intend to visit the local science centre (Science East) using my Ontario Science Centre membership. Then it's on to Halifax. |
