Skagen makes incredibly sturdy watches with a reasonable price. My stainless steel Skagen women's dress watch has been through a rediculous beating and doesn't show any scratches. It's good for every-day, as well as dressy. Since it's water proof to 3ATM, I've worn it snorkeling, mountain biking, high-altitude hiking...

I'm actually still shopping for a good deal. My uncle's going on a cruise in a few months and suggested that I make a list of watches I like and he'll try to find them wherever he's going since the watches there are about half the price of what you can get them for here and are duty free.

You may want to check a watch forum - http://www.watchuseek.com has an Affordable Watches forum for example. I really like mechanically wound watches now and am looking at getting a handwound Poljot at some point. Their Journey chronos are beautiful.

I do think the strap is wearing a little prematurely, however. Plus, I think it's the only thing I own that says "Made in Denmark". |
I was under the impression that Skagens are marked Denmark but aren't actually made in Denmark - I may have gotten incorrect information.
Your comment on the leather wearing out brings me to another point - watches with standard strap lugs are much more flexible in that you can change straps according to your taste or simply to bring a tired-looking watch back to life. Also worth looking at if you buy a watch with a bracelet - if it has standard lugs you could swap it out for a strap later. Looking at your Fossil, it looks like that might be possible actually. :) |
Just picked up some new wrist candy... Montblanc Timewalker Automatic
*edit: wow, terrible picture...i'll take a better one...* Here's a generic shot of it until I find my good camera: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...LL._AA280_.jpg Spoiler: Mine only cost $20 in hong kong, though |
Those MontBlanc Timewalkers are beautiful. I was very tempted by a used non-chrono one recently.

Yeah, the ones with the leather strap are great. I'd buy one...if it didn't cost more than my monthly salary....

Been a while since I last posted in here - I've really started to get into the watch thing and have a wishlist that I'm starting to work down. My most recent acquisitions were a couple really nice Tags that I bought in mint condition... have wanted to own a Tag since I was in secondary school so it's like a dream come true. :)
Next: probably an Omega... although I want to save up and buy a Breitling Navitimer at some point. |
I'd probably just go to the pawn shop and get a really good deal on a nice watch. Lightly used of course. ;)
