yelizaveta 03-30-2007 12:42 PM

where have you travelled?

this thread is a good place to list all the places you've been and impress us all with your sophistication. :)

i personally love to travel, try to go somewhere at least 4 times a year, and have been to:
france, spain, portugal, germany, england, ukraine, jamaica, several parts of mexico, canada, costa rica, dominican republic, st martin, st lucia, st barts, and about half the states of america.
this sunday I am flying to cozumel for a week, and i plan to spend 2 weeks in denmark this summer.
i think my 3 favorite cities in europe would have to be madrid, barcelona, and lisbon.

greytone 03-30-2007 03:22 PM

Countries:

Canada
Mexico
Jamaica
Cayman Islands
Ireland
England
The Netherlands
Norway
Sweden
Finland
Russia
Estonia
Poland
Germany
Denmark
Spain
France
Monoco
Italy
The Vatican
Greece
Turkey
St Lucia
Barbados
Antigua
China
Belize

Within the US:

Every state except Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and South Dakota. I was only in Michigan because we were lost and turned back south after a few miles, but hey, that counts.

Puerto Rico, St Thomas, St Croix, St John

I hope I have not missed any. There sure is a lot more to see and not enough time or funds to get everywhere I want.

Charlatan 03-30-2007 03:57 PM

Canada (yes it's my home country but when you have to go over 1000km to get somewhere that's travelling, even if it's the same country)
United States
England
France
Monaco
Spain
Germany
Norway
Sweden
Finland
Denmark
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Hungary
Poland
Singapore
Hong Kong
South Korea
Taiwan
Indonesia

95% of that is business travel.

yelizaveta, you are going to have to add to your list of favourite cities. When you go to Copenhagen you will love it. It is up there in my list of favourite cities. I don't know that I can make a short list of cities that I love but if I had to choose just one... it would be London. I am going to live there one day, I just know it.

Lucifer 03-30-2007 04:46 PM

Canada (same reason as Charlatan gave) - I live at one end and work in the middle.

favourite Places: Pitcairn's Island, Zanzibar, Portugal (fave city: Porto. Sorry Little_Tippler)

Charlatan 03-30-2007 05:01 PM

I want to sail around the world too... but I want to be sailed around the world. I am pretty sure I don't want to swab the deck.

Laugh-O-Matic 03-31-2007 12:09 PM

Australia,
New Zealand,
UK (Entire)
Malaysia,
South Africa,
Detroit, US.
Singapore,
Sri Lanka,
Mauritius,
Hong Kong,
France,

And around India. Not too many places, but hey, I've got youth on my side.

Jinn 03-31-2007 01:36 PM

California, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico?

Yet to leave the country =/

noodle 03-31-2007 03:00 PM

Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolinas, Ohio, Tennessee
Boston, San Francisco, San Leandro, Sonoma, San Diego...

Malmö, Lund, Luleå, Copenhagen, Helsingür, Helsingbørg and the Stockholm Airport. Enough of my American attempts to correctly spell these cities!

greytone 03-31-2007 03:03 PM

I knew I would forget one. Bonaire was a great place to dive. How could I forget that.

Lucifer, I am jealous. I very much want to get to the Galapagos, but so far no one I know wants to go.

abaya 04-01-2007 01:06 AM

Eh, this should be fun... haven't counted them up in a long time. These countries don't include those where I've only been to the airport (en route to somewhere else), and they are all non-business trips, except for Zambia.

Most west-of-Mississippi and East Coast states (but not Alaska or Hawaii!)
Canada
Mexico
Iceland
Thailand
Lebanon
Zambia
South Africa
Greenland
England
France
Netherlands
Belgium
Denmark
Norway
Czech Republic
Germany
Italy
Spain
Greece

... not bad, but there are SOOOO many other places I want to go to. Haven't been anywhere in central/south America, nor have I been anywhere other than Thailand, in Asia. Am also dying to see Eastern Europe at the moment. And I very envious of Lucifer's list, with all the South Pacific destinations... mmmmmmm! Need to travel more, more, more.

Charlatan 04-01-2007 01:14 AM

I agree Abaya... so many places, so little time. I have a hankering to do south and central america as well.

If you end up in South East Asia, look me up.

mirevolver 04-04-2007 04:07 PM

In order of first appearance in the country:

United States (Sure I'm a citizen, but when your country spans East to West the length of a continent, and you've stood at both coasts, there was some traveling going on.)
Germany
Denmark
United Kingdom (Scotland, England and Wales)
Netherlands
Belgium
France
Canada
Czech Republic
Austria
Hungary
Spain
Portugal
Russia

Country that I've visited the most # of times: Germany. I think I've lost count of how many times I've been in this country. If you have a Germany related travel question, I'm a person you can ask.

joemc91 04-06-2007 03:53 PM

Traveling like it's my job around Canada and the US. Last year I made a New Years resolution to hit one new country every month for a year. That worked until I took a new job. Starting in the middle of this summer I think I'll finish off the resolution.

Every state in the Union except Alaska, Hawaii, and Mississippi
Every Canadian province except Yukon and NW Territories
England/Scotland
France
Germany
Netherlands
Switzerland
Bahamas
Chile
Australia

The best part is that the list was compiled over only 1.5 years.

SecretMethod70 04-06-2007 04:25 PM

Certainly dwarfed by most of the lists here, but here's mine:

Canada
Austria
Germany
Italy

In the US:

Illinois (live there ;))
Iowa
Ohio
Wisconsin
Indiana
Kentucky
Tennessee
Georgia
Florida
New York
Massachusetts
Pennsylvania
North Carolina

Grasshopper Green 04-06-2007 08:55 PM

I've only been to Mexico and the UK outside of the States (I've been to quite a few of them). Traveling abroad is one of the top "to dos" on my list of things to do before I die though. Our next trip is planned to the UK, and we hope to travel to Ireland or France while we are there :)

Mister Coaster 04-08-2007 07:20 AM

Well, not much compared to some...

Over half of the States
Mexico (Mex City, Acapulco)
England
Scotland

I suppose my biggest claim to fame is the fact I have been on over 150 roller coasters on my travels across the US.

relenawolf 04-09-2007 08:45 AM

vdublover 04-17-2007 02:46 PM

I like virtual tourist for this. You can create a profile and then start adding the places you visit. Plus you can contact people who live or have recently visited places that you want to go next. I've actually made some friends this way. Cool way to connect. Check it out at http://www.virtualtourist.com.

In response to the thread:

I have been to every single state in the US (and every national park, most monuments, major museums, etc. etc. etc.)

pan6467 05-12-2007 09:55 AM

I've driven through and stayed in 39 states and will add 4 new ones in the next week or so.

1 Ohio - HOME always calls me back

2 Indiana - good memories living in Indianapolis, just down the road from the track and the buildup to the race.... it becomes a party town

3 Kentucky - great horsetracks beautiful scenery

4 West Va. - boring, but nice scenery

5 Pa. - Philly is a decent town.... Pittsburgh sucks but I'm biased

6 Michigan - the drivers are nuts and it is by far the rudest nastiest dirtiest state (again I maybe biased here)

7 Ill. - nice to visit but not my cuppa tea

8 Fla. - love it, love swimming in the Gulf in March, love Santa Maria Island, Orlando for a tourist trap is a very nice city (expensive though), Tampa/St. Pete/Sarasota area.... wonderful.... Ft. Lauderdale/Miami during spring break just nuts but very cool if you are young and can handle it

9 N. Car. - the Outer Banks are a little rough with the undertow, but a very beautiful state

10 S. Car - very dirty, very tourist driven but has a dark underbelly that tainted my ever wanting to go back

11 Va. - loved Va Beach as a kid, Kings Dominion/Busch Gardens/ Williamsburg etc. very cool but as Navy and having been stationed there, again I saw the nasty underbelly and the Norfolk area is one of the most corrupt, most vile I have ever seen.

12 Md. - decent

13 Del. - decent

14 Az. - my second home, great weather, wonderful people, a great recovery community, and Lake Havasu during Spring Break is ..... well almost as great as Fla. just not as busy.

Have no desire to do Mexico or anywhere in Central/South America, Africa, eastern Europe, Asia.

I've been to many national parks, as well. I'm trying to add more to my list, though--I haven't been to Yosemite or Kings Valley, and those are both parks I would like to add to my list. I would also like to see more of Olympic National Park, and I'd like to hike through North Cascades this summer, if possible (I hiked there a lot in my childhood). Right now the plan for this summer to start adding summits of mountains to my list--starting with South Sister in Oregon. We're also planning on backpacking parts of the Eagle Cap wildnerness in Eastern Oregon this summer.
