organic/natural pet food
My eyes were really opened up when I started researching dry dog food and what goes into it (I was inspired by the pet food poll thread). I'm really disgusted by the things I read.
For those of you that feed your pets natural food, what brand do you buy? I think I'm going to Pets are People Too tomorrow to check out what they have, but I would like to get some reccomendations first. Thanks! |

I use Nutro. I like it, the dog likes it. Yeah that thread really opened up mye eyes too so I really scrutinize the ingredients, especially on treats as well.
Paul Newman makes a great line of organic all natural treats and so does Ol Mother Hubbard. |

I use Nutro Ultra and Natural Balance rood rolls. I supplement with slices of roast beef. I roast the beef myself with chicken giblets, carrots and bell peppers. I puree the vegetables with the juices, add low-sodium V8, and make a gravy with whole wheat flour. I add this gravy to the kibble and give the giblets as treats.

Eukanua is the way to go. Great product and good stuff. I found that it's the easiest to digest for my dogs. If we do happen to switch to a brand such as pedigree for a few weeks, they just puke it up. I have some pretty high energy dogs and I also noticed that they seem to have better energy and better attention spans when they are on all Eukanuba products.

when i first did foster cat homes, they had us buy Paul Newman's Own Cat Food brand... freakin' expensive, 2 cans a day $1.59/can.
Once we adopted them, we let them pick their food. Kitten Chow won hands down.

The corporations that make pet food soak their poison in flavour enhancers in order to trick the animal into eating it. Simple as that. They know that dumb consumers will select their pet food strictly on whether their pet eats it or not. Quote:

That's why my wife's childhood cat lived to a very healthy 19 years old and died at home of a thyroid condition complicated by old age. She ate the same stuff for the 7 years that I lived with her. Yeah those poisons got to her after 7 years.

So besides Nutro, what other natural/organic brands have people tried? I splurged on Canidae and so far its great. I feed a lot less because its not full of fillers and artificial flavors, so its more $$$ but lasts longer. The dogs love it too, and I like knowing I'm not feeding them road kill and chicken feet. |
