Searching for the perfect brew!

Our 25th wedding anniversary and what to do?

Our anniversary is the day after Christmas and we bought together a nice but inexpensive anniversary band. But other than that I can afford nothing so does anyone have and suggestions as to what I can do for her?

I was thinking about sending her out to do something to keep her busy and having my daughter set the table nice and having my mother make something fancy for dinner.

Having my daughter stay at grandma's

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

My wife wants the kids around for occasions like this.

Just a thought.

Happy anniversary, BTW. Keeping a marriage together is hard work sometimes, and you've done it for 25 years.

That's something to be proud of.

Congratulations Brew!

I think magic is right...in a way. It depends on your wife- if she's spent the last several years as a stay-at-home mom taking care of your daughter...well, she probably would love the break. However if she's really family oriented, then you might reconsider sending the daughter away.

As for ideas: are you handy with a computer? Why not take some photos, scan them, and make a collage of you together? Then frame it and present it to her. Maybe you already have lots of photos on the wall already. Why not write her a heart-felt letter to give to her over dinner?

Also, you could get a plate and a ceramic pen, and write some meaningful things on it, and get your daughter to write something like "I love you mom and dad" too! Bake it in the oven, and you have something that can be useful too.

Here's a craft board if you are creative and handy (it is actually a board for Valentine's day, but still romantic, you know?): http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=99.0

Congratulations, Brew! I can't think of a better gift than the one you have planned, and that you are safely back home from the hospital.

both the traditional and modern gifts for the 25th anniversary milestone is silver... since your anniversary falls the day after christmas - what about some silver bells (they don't have to be sterling) and come up with some creative poem about love and bells ringing and stuff like that...

Congratulations! I wish mine could have lasted that long.
I'm more of a quiet home cooked dinner type of guy myself, so I would plan something like that.
Also, I would write her a letter telling her how much I still love her and always have, how I love waking up with her each day. The letter I would start now, writing down stuff every day, everything I could think of. then when it got closer to the anniversary go over what I had written and re compose it into a coherent letter.

Now why don't you set the table, chill the wine and cook a nice dinner for your lovely wife. I think she would really appreciate that.

Congratulations.

Brew... I think what you have planned is perfect. The only thing that would make it better would be if you had a hotel room in a fancy hotel. That said, I understand your situation regarding that...

This year on our anniversary, my wife and I were on a budget. She got rid of the kids and then she made over our bedroom into a "hotel" room. She even put a number on the door. Sure it was cheesy but it worked.

Dinner was amazing, the time alone is always amazing and when you treat your house like a hotel you don't worry too much about cleaning up.

25 years! That's a really long time. Congratulations!

wow, congratulations on your 25

I think what you have planned is very thoughtful. It's the thought that really counts, having something written or typed/printed for her would be an extra special touch. I know i'm a card girl myself... that way I get to read it over and over and relive the anniversary/occasion.

It's the small thoughtful things that she'll really love. Maybe have her favorite flowers delivered to the door with a special note? You can order online now and have a set time when they will deliver it, I think that would be a nice touch. I know my sister's husband did that for her, just a big bunch of her favorite color of dasies... she melted on the spot and it wasn't too hard on the pocketbook. just a thought

good luck and above all, cherish your special day together and enjoy your time reliving all the wonderful moments of your years together

Hey all, you have some great suggestions! I've come up with an idea and want to know what you think? I googled message in a bottle and there are several sites that print messages on old parchment looking paper and put them in a bottle, so do you think she would like it?

Here's a couple links and what wrote.

Do you like this one:

http://www.timelessmessage.com/bottl...token=90628882

or this one?

http://www.onepassionplace.com/messageshearts.htm

Gigi my love, twenty-five years together is more than many thought was possible, but our love is stronger than most can imagine. A love that has seen us through wonderful happy times and some incredibly rough times but it stayed strong and gets stronger with every passing day. You are my best friend and love of my life, you captured my heart twenty-five years ago and it still belongs to you.

Sweetheart, I love and absolutely adore you and I am so proud to be your husband!

Jack

Crud, with a note like that, *I'm* ready to marry you for the next 25 years! It's beautiful.

I think the 'timeless' bottle is prettier, but I like the rose petals at 'onepassionplace'. I guess that doesn't help, eh?

just plain old white paper would be good enough for me - the words are beautiful... nicely said.

Ha! As far as I know it still is...

Brew... those are lovely words. You know the important thing is the drop her notes like that even when it's not your anniversary (but given that it's your 25th I'm sure you already know these things).

I personally like the timelessmessage.com bottle. it's more old fashioned and looks more romantic. But for the second bottle... the "key to the heart" part of the gift is very cute... so you know your wife better...

would she go for the romantic/old style bottle or the more modern one with the key to the heart?

You are really putting a lot of wonderful thought into this, it's touching to see someone care so deeply about their wife. Reminds me of my husband and trust me... wives love it when their husbands get a little mushy and uber romantic from time to time your wife is a lucky woman to have you as you are her.

Congrats, dude.

Say, you've been together for more than 25 years - what do you think SHE would like. I mean, you know her better than anyone at TFP. Sometimes trying to be too cute isn't what's needed.

My father wanted to do something fancy for their's but finally listened to the kids because she really favors the simple. So he surprised her with a visit from all the kids and dinner at a nice but quiet place nearby in the mountains. The key thing was all the kids together - it wouldn't have metter where or what. The surprise was awesome!

Good luck!

Oh hey, I never gave you an update, I got sick as hell and ended on IV antibiotics(have become resistant to most common ones) but was home instead of the hospital, we have convinced my Doc that I get better care at home.

I gave her the heart shaped bottle w/rose petals and note. Got my mother to make up firecracker shrimp and a nice bottle of Champagne, we had a good time.

Thanks all who wished congrats and offered advice, she was really pleased with everything, especially the diamond anniversary band!
