Muscle weight vs Fat weight

What is the difference between muscle weight and fat weight? I know muscle is denser and therefore weighs more, however what is the ratio of muscle and its weight to how much fat would usually weigh?
I've been working out pretty consistently the past month and my weight has gone up from 142 to 154. I know I haven't put on any excess. So it must be muscle. Just wondering what other people thought of the difference between the two and perhaps shed some new light.

How tall are you? I know i'm having problems gaining weight right now, i've lost a pound over the past week, but am putting on muscle like crazy. Keep your eye on the tape measure and mirror, they will often guide you better than weight alone.

I'm 5'8, typically when I'm not in season I'm around 140 so about 155 is when I was usually in shape for the peek of my season. I've been toning up alot which has been my goal, just curious about the weight stuff also. Like to be aware.

I think it's all about how those pants fit around the waste. Much better measure than weight. And if you had low muscle density and really started lifting you could pack on some muscle fairly quickly, even faster than the fat you drop for a period of time.

You're quoting an 8% increase. You could have been 2-3 lbs. low when you first weighed yourself and then have swung the other way most recently. That would adjust a 12 lbs. increase to perhaps only 7-8. Just thinking out loud.

Muscle doesn't actually weigh more than fat. They both weigh the same. 1 lb. of muscle weighs the same as 1 lb. of fat. Obviously

The thing is, you can fit more muscle in the same space as you can fat - because it's more dense. You can fit 10 lbs of muscle in the same space as you could have normally fit 3 lbs of fat (that may not be exact but you get the idea). A guy that's the exact same size as his twin, but is full of muscle, will weigh more, because he has more muscle in him than his twin brother. You can cram more muscle in the same space than fat.
