How to erase points off your driver's license?
 

Hey all,
I've got a speeding ticket and paid double just so that they can take 5 miles off and make it 55 (I'm sure I wasn't speeding anyway:((). :mad:
But I still have the 2 points. How do I erase them?
What should I do?
I herad of taking driving classes. What is that and where can I find them? What are they called exactly and how do I apply for them? How much do they cost? I'm clueless.

yeah i think in the states you can go to driving school to get rid of pts, but you must do it before the court date. always try to fight it cuz if you don't insurance will increase

In CA, you make arrangements with the court to attend a court-approved traffic school. Make sure you get this approved and recorded with your court first, or it's completely wasted time (and money, they'll of *course* charge you an extra fee, on top of what the traffic school will cost). You usually have a couple months to do that, and then a bit more time afterwards to submit the paperwork proving you did it.

Just call the court and tell them your ticket number, and ask about getting the traffic points removed (and document everything they tell you, and the date, time, and the name of the person who gave you this info! In case you do what you're told, and then someone else contradicts the first, and *you* get in trouble for it...

Hundove, best be sure the traffic school you enrolled in is recognized/approved by the court, or it's a complete waste of time. They have to approve it, and they usually have a list.

you also want to make sure that it will indeed reduce the points.. NJ I thought you could only go to traffic school if your liscence was nearing suspension.. 2 points isn't even close to suspension...

In CA you can take traffic school every 18 months (for a specific ticket, not just in general to constantly reduce points).

Point violation program
The MVC Driver Improvement Program is offered in lieu of a 30-day suspension for drivers who accumulate 12 to 14 points in more than two years. Information about the program is included in the Notice of Scheduled Suspension that you receive in the mail. Up to three points will be removed from your driving record if you successfully complete the program. The fee for the program is $100.

How can I get rid of points on my record?

hey all,
thanks for the suggestion. In the traffic school that is in the link Mal gave me, it is a 6 hour program in which you can take off up to 2 points and also reduce your insurance.
Does anyone know what exactly do we do in those six hours? What is the program detail of this class?I really want to know what I'm going to ahead of time.

the course i took in mass, we had about 4 hours of classroom instruction, with a test we had to pass, then about 2 hours behind a simulated driver which we were also scored on and had to pass.

Call the school and ASK Them what youahve to do - every state is going to be different

I just called the court to see what traffic schools are approved by them and they were surprised I asked them and they told me that they do not dela with points. They only deal with fines. They told me that DMV is in charge of points.
Is this true?
Should I contact the DMV?

Zeet: The laws and regulations for your area are going to differ from the original posters' (in 2006) and as such we can't give precise advice. Generally speaking, though, when you go to court for a moving violation you will meet with the district attorney (DA) or assistant DA. Based on your driving history, their docket and willingness to prosecute, and extenuating factors, they may offer you a reduced sentence ("defective headlight", "careless driving", "obstructed view") in exchange for you pleading guilty to the lesser sentence.

If it is entirely a mail-in ticket, then some municipalities will reduce the sentence if the fee is paid in a certain amount of time, usually the first 15 or 20 days.
