GECKOOOOOOS!

i only saw one other thread on here about reptiles in general, but isnt there anyone else who keeps any reptiles? i currently have approximately 30 geckos, about 11 eggs cooking, and 6 snakes.

i'd give you a list of all the different species, but it'd probably kinda boring for everyone.. so unless there is someone else who is interested, i'll just keep this a general thread.

just thought i'd share a pic of one of neonates.. geckolepis analoma

Geckos are awesome, I can't believe you have 30 and 11 on the way. Although I don't keep any reptiles I am still interested in hearing what you have to say. Can you give us some more details in how you keep them (housing, feeding, breeding)?

I saw a bunch of geckos when I was in Costa Rica and got a couple of pics. I was so excited that I ran at them with my camera screaming "Geico Geico Geico!!!!" and of course they scattered (I'm such an idiot). I also saw a basilisk (Jesus lizard). Coolest looking bad ass mofo lizard. Definitely not a friendly critter. While rafting I got to see a bunch of iguana lounging around lazily on the rocks. Those suckers can get huge!!! Like mini-dinosaurs.

I have given some preliminary thought to keeping turtles but it's quite the undertaking (they need tons of room). Anyone else here into turtles, lizards etc or herpetology?

I am a freak. I dont mind spiders or snakes or lizards but dont geckos bite?
Ok, all animals bite but I tend to avoid animals that have reputations for it like.... sharks.

I love lizards. One of my favorite childhood memories was catching lizards in Southern Utah on one of our many family camping trips...

I've never had lizards as pets, but my dad used to have a chameleon named Gomez. He was awesome. He would turn bright green with lighter green spots when he was pissed off (which was rare, he seemed to be pretty laid back), and I loved to watch him eat and do his little chameleon "dance"...the rocking back and forth thing.

I'd keep lizards, but I don't have the time for more pets right now. My birds are neglected as it is

Nice picture, oscar!

^^^This woman owns cats. Go figure.

I've seen geckos and iguanas on vacation, and they are really facinating. I wasn't real keen about seeing a geck at eye level in the shower.

Whoops...I meant Lady Sage

I think animals as a whole are fascinating! Reptiles included of course... youd be suprised what kinds of pets I have had in my menagerie over the years... and how many.

I have a leopard gecko

have had 2 others in the past, but they both died...

Its a good pet for college cuz I'm so busy and dont have time for a pet that requires more time.

and yah geckos can bite, but so can anything with a mouth... some species of geckos seem to be more sociable then others... leopard geckos tend to be very calm and sociable... whereas tokays tend to be very vicious and hard to tame.

I've always thought Geckos were cool, but I have NO knowledge of them.

I really like the green ones I've seen at the pet stores. I think they're called the dragon geckos. Not sure though.

Anyone want to hook me up with some info? Yeah I know, I'll use Google too.

i could go on and on about geckos. they are a huge family of lizards. i think there are over 300 diff genus of geckos and i think like 2,000 different species or some amazingly huge amount. i keep approximately 13 differnent species i think.. i lose count.. and in herp friends, thats a small amount. i am aquaintances with a guy in KS that probably has the largest gecko collection in the world in terms of diversity. i think he said he has over 300 different species and who knows how many individuals. he actually travels the world to collect them himself.... and its just a hobby for him, although he admits its really an obsession.

their care ranges from room temps and baby food diets to high 80's-90's and purely insect diets. the sizes for those i have range from 1" SVL (snout to vent length] to, my monster, 8" SVL. the only one who might bite is.. of course.. the monster one i mentioned. the rest either dont show any inclination or are too flighty to even get close to. i have breeding pairs for 8 species and 1 species that is parthogenic, i.e. can lay viable eggs without a mate. the neonates are literally clones of the adult.

another pic this a Oedura monilis, or a ocellated velvet gecko from australia.

I've had leopard geckos, tree frogs and now have a veiled chameleon.

I used to breed bearded dragons for a while, had to sale them off when I moved into an apartment that had a no pet policy.
