Your Favorite Cardio Equipment

I have recently discovered the fun of the stairclimber at the gym. At first, I was all about the treadmill but found that I quickly outgrew that. Now, I start my cardio on the elliptical and finish on the stairclimber. What kind of cardo stuff do you guys use? Or do you scoff at all that high tech stuff and use your own two legs?

If I were to buy one, it would be an eliptical. My wife uses the one at her moms house all the time and loves it. For me, walking and rollerblading is all I do, at least 40 minutes a day now!

My favorite choice, above all, is my trusty bicycle.

When the weather is not cooperating, and I must go to the gym, I like the recumbent bicycle (easier on my back) and the elliptical (keeps my feet in place, so it automatically corrects my stride). Running is not the best form of cardio for me, as I am pigeon-toed, and when my stride is wrong it is hard on my joints, so I stick with those two.

I'd rather be on foot or on a bicycle. When the weather is bad, I have a stationary bike, but I usualyl just play with my beagle. That's the best exercise of all.

I prefer to use my legs and just go run. Gotta be outdoors too, none of that treadmill bullshit.

I have been using a jump rope for the past few days also; it's great for cardio.

My road bike followed by my/and the gym's spin bikes mixed in with am Arc trainer.

I choose the unpopular treadmill. I just always gravitate to it. No real reason.

My favorite cardio training equipment is a jump rope, and a good pair of running shoes.

I have a knee problem, so Eliptical is usually my torture of choice. I can't jog like I used to anymore because of the impact so the mill is out.

Something else I use pretty often is the rowing machine. How Jedi it is is up for debate. :D

I like the Elliptical, I've change beween them all just to add variety and change up my workout, but if I only had one it would be the Elliptical.

Philangicality 09-06-2006 12:31 PM

Elliptical - good for training the muscle groups used for snowboarding.

hiredgun 09-06-2006 12:55 PM

A hearty second to the rowing machine! It's quite refreshing if you're bored with endlessly punishing your legs for cardio ;).

Ordinarily running is my drug of choice, whether it's in the open outdoors or on the track (but I don't like treadmills much). My knees have been complaining a bit recently, though. Anyone know a good solution to that? (or if it's an involved topic I can move the thought elsewhere lest I threadjack).

Those things are great! I used one that had two water tanks for a more realistic rowing experience. It was quite a workout.

If I could be convinced that the elliptical was really burning off the number of calories it says it is on the screen, it would be my favorite.

But I get the most intense workouts from the stepmill (i.e., the escalator-like device, not the ersatz stairmaster). Drenched in sweat in 5 minutes with very low impact. Until someone convinces me otherwise, I believe this burns more calories per minute than the other machines.

Ustwo 09-07-2006 09:55 AM

My wife.

Ok every time I see this thread pop up I think of that as a joke, but I hate cardio so its pretty true :)

Ample 09-07-2006 11:34 AM

I only use the treadmill. If I go to my gym and they are all taken and all the other equipment is unused, I'll just wait

Vincentt 09-10-2006 06:41 PM

I like rowing machine.

Why are they hardly ever in the gym?

ryfo 09-10-2006 07:41 PM

Usually the eleptical or the tread. If I want to work my arms the eliptical is great but if I just want an easier cardio workout the treadmill works a treat.

Gilda 09-10-2006 08:31 PM

Eliptical. I can do it hooked up to my iPod or watching a movie and the time just flies by.

A punching bag.

Back when I was in my kung fu training (gotta go back), I'd end my warm up with a few minutes on the punching bag, bare handed. No gloves. It's a large, 150lb. brown leather bag. If the instructor did stop me to give me my lesson for the session, I'd punch and kick and hammer and chop, etc, all day and night. I wonder why he'd give me my lesson first though...

One question: what's eliptical?

anyaslilbro 09-11-2006 02:41 PM

I love the elliptical machine.

LOVE!

It is good to "switch up" machines every 3 weeks though, to keep your body from getting used to the machine, and burning the calories more efficiently i.e. less calories burned.

It kind-of sort-of simulates running. The two major differences are that your arms are involved, and that since you aren't lifting your feet from a surface, it's extremely low-impact compared to a treadmill.

another vote for rowing machines! jogging is good, the bike is, well, it has cable tv at our gym...but high-intensity interval training on the rowing machine is awesome.

:)
