Home workout?
Hey guys,
Just wondering if anyone has any advice for working out at home. I used to go to the gym 5 times a week but found I was getting really, really body obsessed and comparing too much with other guys (I'm never going to be a big strong guy without putting years of work in, hence the nick ya know?) and unhappy, no matter how much progress I made. The fact that I struggle with depression didn't help much in that respect either. I also got tired of the boredom and endless nowhere (IMO) discussions about reps and routines. Now I just run and mountain bike (10km in 40 minutes!) but I'm finding I'd like to tone up the upper body a bit, just as a little present for my fiancee. I'm leary about going back to the gym cuz I don't want to get into that whole comparison attitude again. I'm also pretty broke. :( So here's the thing, I'm doing crunches and tricep dips and pushups at home before my runs, but I'd like to work more groups. Anyone have any suggestions for cheap exercises I can do in my apartment? Thanks! |
Hm, cheap.... If you go to WalMart you should be able to get a bar, two dumbell handles and a whole lot of plates for under $50. With these you could do about everything...curls for bi's, military press with the bar...anything really.
If you don't ant to buy anything or have no space to put them - find a door, with a frame sticking out from the wall and use the ledge to do pull-ups for bi's and back. |
That cheap eh?
I've actually already got a bar and one dumbbell handle, just no weights. I used to but they were those plastic ones with concrete inside and they cracked open from old age. Will try the door ledge thing too. Thanks! |
Anyone have a good workout plan both using and without using weights at home?

Find a way to turn the workout into a game. I basically did little more in the way of fitness than sit on my ass until I finally decided to get myself a Dance Dance Revolution-style dance mat and matching PS2->PC adapter. Add StepMania and a slew of bumper packs off DDRuk, and I had a good start. (I never knew that a computer game could give you such a workout!) Don't just exercise, try to make a game out of it!
