So, I live on the side of a hill, and the driveway winds around the house and down the hill. Some parts of the driveway are at a 45 degree angle. On one of those grades a trench has been worn into the driveway. The soil is pretty much clay with layers of gravel that has been poured over it and pouned into it by the vehicles. I want to fill this trench with something that will "stick" and not get easily worn out by spinning wheels or rain. (I'm in the Pacific Northwest)

I've been thinking of just taking a sledge and mashing the sides of the trench down and then buying some gravel to pour over that section of the driveway. Then I wound drive back and forth over it to pound the gravel in.

Of course I could just take a shovel and scrape off the top 5 inches of the slope and re-grade that section, but that's far mor effort than I want to expend.

Any bright ideas?

Years ago in Georgia we used gravel called crushed run. I think. I had medium size rocks a nd a lot of powder that almost turned into concrete. You might look for something like that. It's probably similar to what Tug pointed out.

You could always cover the above mentioned stone with (Latex I believe) Asphalt patch... You can buy it in bucketsor bags at HomeDepot, I'm not sure who else sells it... Here is a link to one type of the product.

what caused the trench, if it is erosion, you will have to look at fixing that issue first.

I lived on a hill, and we used to cut trenches in the drive way to keep water on the side of the road we wanted.
