Christmas Lights for dummies.
Hi everyone. I'm new here, but I thought I'd just jump right in. I found this site while searching for information on how to put Christmas lights on my house (LOL) . So that is where I will start.
I seem to have really gotten into the spirit of the season this year and decided to decorate my house and yard with lights. I had delusions of grandeur and what I thought was a plan. My 15 year old daughter "volunteered" to help and I assigned her to the tree in front. Only about 15 minutes into the project I came to the conclusion that neither of us had any idea what we were doing, and I wondered if there is such a thing as a "Christmas Lights for Dummies" book. Undaunted, I continued in my task, but the final result was somewhat disappointing (I'll post a picture tomorrow). I just can't figure out how to get the light strings to come out even with the edges of the house? I totally gave up on trying to do the windows. The important thing is that I had fun doing it! Anyway, now I thought I would study up so maybe I can do better next year! (My two year old Granson was impressed though! ) Last edited by Bill O'Rights; 11-29-2005 at 05:06 AM.. |

Funny I didn't find any other forum, I just found this one. Maybe it's fate, there ARE other things to talk about other than Chraistmas lights, good thing 'cause I can't do 'em! Sorry 'bout the RED, I just didn't know any better.

Hard to see red color fixed.
Now, as far as the lights go...we just outline the house, including the windows and door frames. We have "net" lights that go over our shrubbery, and we put lighted Santas, candycanes, snowflakes and what not, in the windows. A wreath on the door, and that pretty much takes care of the exterior of the O'Rights family homestead. Welcome to the fray. And, you are correct in your assesment of this forum. There is usually something in for most everybody to talk about. Have fun.

Holy crap thats a lot of Christmas lights.
Lots. And the how-to section includes bits on dimmers and fog machines and strobes and so on. I'm not sure whether to be impressed by the seasonal spirit or worried. I wonder how many neighbors have sued over retinal damage?

I think a competition has spawned in my neighborhood over the Christmas light thing! My neighbors have put up their lights and they look even sorrier than mine. Does that mean I win, or I lose?

My new neighbors just put up their lights tonight - nothing but blue, red and green lights (mostly blue) - the sentiment is nice but it looks like Toucan Sam had a reversal - plain clear bulbs for us all the way - oh and Killinspiders - thank you for the post
