Looking for a bit o help here.
I've been trying to work out how to distill and get high grade alcohol for running my car on... Now before it runs in a car I'm wanting to tinker with everything for making it work in a lawn mower, generator, and everything else I can find to use it in first. I've been thinking about this for a long time and really want to get something going.
As of now all I've really found is either poor pictures of stills for sale that seem to be able to produce what I would like to make. But as of yet no idea how to even start the distilling process and even how to start. Right now I've just got an Idea and want to start experimenting with it. I do need a bit of help on solving this problem and hope to have someone hlep me solve this. |
Here's three of the sites I used to learn a few things.

You might want to check what the laws are in your state before you start something... I know that moonshine is illegal here- and I think the cops aren't going to believe that still is for fuel for your car....

It's usually fine to make your own alcohol, especially if you're not drinking it. The big thing to consider is what it'll do to your car. There are several modern cars that will run on E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). Make sure yours is one of them. Also, you'll have to calculate the cost of producing ethanol (include paying yourself for your time) and weigh that against the cost of gas. Be sure to factor in the gasoline equivalency, one gallon of E85 won't take you the same number of miles as a gallon of gasoline.
BTW, it's tricky to make 100% ethanol. |
Where would I find out if my car was one of the ones that would run on 85%eth?

But still do you guys have any recomendations, and also can't I just blow my own motor out in a generator and just get the info rather than report if my car can be or can't be used? |

There's a list of current model year FFVs, plus some info on aftermarket equipment. |
