Where to Letters to Santa/ God end up?

I know that the propper American format is:
"God
Your city, your state your ZIP code"

But where do these letters end up? A google search yeilded nothing useful except for a site with my question and advertisements.

I think its something called the dead letter office. Or something like that. I'd have to rewatch Miracle on 34th Street or whatever the movie was where they trucked in bags and bags of letters for santa to be sure. :p

Actually, I don't know about United States but up in Canada, I do believe that they actually get answered by the post office provided that the postal code is H0H 0H0

A lot of the letters to Santa ends up at the Santa's house in Drøbakk, Norway, actually :)

A lot, from all over the us go to the main post office in new york city... where kind people (and crabby do-gooders) can pick them up, sift thru hundreds of thousands of letters and fulfill the wishes of disadvantaged children. (the post office staffs the letters pick up with employees and a database, so if a kid writes 20 letters, 20 people can't pick up the letter)

it's quite honestly, my favorite part of the holiday.

Operation santa claus

Other cities have taken up this tradition as well... I think it's the sun times in Chicago that does the same thing- -they make the letters to santa available to the public

Hold up. Santa isn't real?

Martian 08-12-2005 03:51 AM

Santa Claus
The North Pole
H0H 0H0

Send a letter to that address in Canada and the post office will have their elves or whoever it is they employ for the purpose write a response. They advertise it every year around Christmas time.

There is a town called North Pole in Alaska, it is just north of Fairbanks, and for a few weeks lots of people are very busy answering letters to Santa.

The ones from Alaska actually have a North Pole postmark.

Where I live, Santa has the area Chamber of Commerce pick up the letters and a few of the members (and their families) type somewhat of a personalized letter (they change the kids name and a few other things) and mails it back to the kids. Santa reimburses them for mailing the response back to the kids at the address given.

Auugh! I really hate crabby do-gooders. I know exactly who you are talking about. They have no patience, and try to make themselves look good by doing it at all. They should be removed from those positions!

We've done the Giving Tree thing, where you take gift requests from disadvantaged kids, buy and wrap the items, and return them before Christmas. I've shed many tears reading requests for things that most of us have lots of like coats, jeans, and books.

I thought God was everywhere what's the point of writing a letter? A letter to Santa I could understand.

Charlatan 10-11-2005 01:00 PM

Where does Santa live? The North Pole.
Where is the North Pole? According to the maps I've seen it is on the arctic ice cap, a place where no nation has a claim.

The magnetic North Pole, however, is in Canada.

Spanxxx 10-15-2005 06:55 PM

Thanks for that post Charlatan. I really dig that map. I always seem to forget the latitude of some of those places. Not to mention how close they actually are to one another. Damn flat maps. Always throwing my perspective off.

I need a good globe.

Hi,

As you said letters in the olden days were late to receive. But now we can send them in advance through post or using any other service. We can try these ideas for a letter from Santa for our child in holidays, or Birthday letter from Santa, etc.

I want to thank forums in helping a lot in writing beautiful letters to present all my friends and kids.
