Cable Tv alternative

I hope someone can help me out.
I currently have Cable tv in New Jersey, and it's pretty expensive (not worth what i am paying for it) i think the dish is a rip-off to. Does anyone know of a tv antenna that would give me a channel selection better than just my local stations. I am not expecting every channel i get from cable, but if i only get 13 channels from it why bother.
Any ideas....

Thanks in advance.

There is no such thing as something "Over the Air" that will come more than your basic 13 stations, terrestrial broadcasts carry only so far which is why Satellite and Cable channels are available widely across the US.

My suggestion would be to either get OTA and a Tivo or downgrade your cable and get a Tivo. Tivo will find what you are looking for and record it for you, you will ALWAYS have something you want to watch when you want to watch it.

you can get a dvb card for your computer and get "Free to air" channels.

Move to europe and get digital free to air terrestrial stations?

I know it's no help at all, but over here we have ~40 free to air chanells that you can pick up via an ordinary roof mounted UHF aerial and decode using a box for ~£35 from most electrical stores or supermarkets.

I really can't complain about DTV and don't think it's overpriced. I guess I'm comparing it ot regular cable...but it seems fair.
It adds up if you have a lot of tv's in the house though.

Supposedly within the year phone companies will be carrying cable, thus adding to the competition between the 2 and hopefully we (the consumer) will win, as they have price wars.

More than supposedly. Qwest is offering cable service to select areas within Omaha. Unfortunatelly...I don't happen to live within that "select" area. And, being the stubborn ass that I am, Cox will never get so much as another dime from me. So...until Qwest expands its service, it's ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS for the O'Rights household.
