so someone would essentially start with making the mark feel safe in each case, then they would tailor the situation to find out what they want or get the mark to have them do the desired action right?

You want reverse phsyco? Let people know your trying to trick them, then when you do trick them they will be even more shocked that 1. they wont beleive it in the first place and 2. they wont figure it out at all thinking it a joke :p
