Feedback on eBay
 

I recently bought three items, from three different sellers, on eBay. One of them was a "Buy it Now," and the others were not. All three of them were paid essentially instantly.

Now, more than a week later, I haven't received feedback from any of them. My feedback number is only twelve, so every piece of feedback is important at this level. Is there some etiquitte on eBay that is preventing these people from leaving me feedback? Do I need to do something besides pay them, on which they will base their feedback? Or did I just get unlucky and buy from some non-feedbackin' bastards?

its been my experience that youonce you've received the items and leave feedback the seller does, have you received the items yet so that you can do that?

Have you received the items and given them feedback? Normally a seller, especially a busier seller, won't leave your feedback until you've touched on their's :) It's a bit selfish but I'm sure you can see the reasons.

So then it appears that each of us is waiting for the other to leave feedback. I always thought that my obligation as a buyer was only to pay quickly, and that I would get my feedback once they were paid. Then, in turn, I would leave their feedback once I got the item.

I have gotten two of the three items, but I'm loathe to leave them positive feedback if they're not going to reciprocate. I wouldn't leave negative, because the items came as advertised, but I might leave neutral.

So then should I just leave them positive feedback on the faith that they will do the same? I mean, they've had what they needed (the cash) for a lot longer than I've had what I needed (the item).

I cant think of one time I've gotten feedback before I got my item.

Why should the rating of your feedback depend on who left it first? Thats not very fair.

At times it takes me a while to get to leaving my feedback. Most of the time I get my feedback before I have recieved my product. Then..when i get around to it I leave my feedback. Once you recieve your product and you are happy. Leave feedback..they will most likly follow suit... I don't believe in neutral feedback.. your either happy or your not... and you got what you paid for in a resoable amount of time without any problems.... leave positive feedback..***that reminds me...... off to e-bay....

I agree with tres on this. If your items came as advertised, and in a timely fashion, positive feedback is all you can leave. You weren't buying feedback, so you have to take what you get. As has been mentioned, your feedback may very well trigger their feedback, so go ahead and leave it, what do you really have to lose?

What you really need to do, is when you first contact the seller after the puchase, mention how you would appreciate positive feedback after he recieves payment. The seller does this all the time, so why not you?

Eh, I usually wait 2 weeks before leaving feedback, Just to make sure that there are no reversals on payments or any issues that crop up. I also make sure they are happy with the item and get it in the form of an email to keep on file incase I leave feedback and then they throw a fit.

Some sellers hold your feedback for ransom, you know, show me yours first then I'll show you mine. They do this to keep their negative feedbacks down so they can recipricate in case you are not happy with what they sold you and if you then leave them a negative.

Then they like to say things like "you can trust me I have almost 100% positive feedback rating. Feedback on eBay has become an almost worthless way of making a judgement.

I have bought over 100 items on eBay with no problems but this feedback game is silly. If they got their money fast then they should leave you a positive, if you got your item undamaged and fast you should leave them a positive.

They don't know that you've got the item and are happy with it. As far as they're concerned, the transaction is still ongoing. It would be a bit daft to leave feedback before the transation was completed, you'll agree?
How do they know you're not going to be an unreasonable cunt about your item being lost in the mails?
How do they know you're not going to leave hysterical negative feedback because the item, though exactly as advertised, was not what you were expecting?

There's more to being a good eBay buyer than just paying quickly.
Once you leave your positive feedback, they'll know you're not going to be some insane nusiance bidder, and they'll give you positive feedback.

I don't think I've ever left anyone negative feedback, but, then again, no one has ripped me off via eBay (knocks on wood). I've left neutral a couple of times when the seller couldn't be bothered to actually write my address on the package correctly... resulting in the items vanishing into the base mail system for several weeks. I can't remember if I left neutral or negative on a "NEW" CD that was scratched to hell when I got it... I think it was neutral just because it was still rippable and I was happy to have it.

Leave informative feedback comments... or at least entertaining ones. "Seller will not harsh all over your mellow." You might want to note the actual shipping cost of the item compared to what the seller charged. Don't be one of those "FAST PAYMENT!!! RECOMMENDED BUYER!!! A++++++++++" people.

You make some good points. However I don't think the seller should leave negative feedback just because the buyer left a negative if he was not happy with what he received. The way it works now most folks won't give a negative because they don't want one in return. Like I said, this grading system has become almost useless.

You all make some good points. I guess I need to do as Gandhi says and, "Be the change I want to see in the world." I've gotten all three items, and am very happy with all of them. If they don't reciprocate my positive feedback, I guess that seller will just have to go on my shit list.

As a seller, I leave feedback once payment has been made satisfactorily, and as a buyer, I leave feedback once I get my item promptly in good condition.

The other person is going to do what they're going to do. I feel it would be unethical to withhold feedback as a kind of ransom for getting it. I, by the way, have 100% as a buyer and 99% as a seller.

I have a perfect example of such seller behavior. Every time I buy something on eBay I pay right after the auction closes, so my payments cannot be faster. Once I baught an item and was never contacted via email that my payment was received, product shipped, and wether I could track it or not. So I left a neutral feedback (this was before the seller left a feedback for me). What do you know, the seller leaves me a neutral feedback saying that the payment was slow. Now that is total crap.

Im a amatur on ebay as well, and I just email the seller to say kindly leave me positive feedback and advise them that you are a begginer and trying to build up creditianls - after I have paid them and written them good feedback of course.

I only leave feedback when asked by the other party to do so. Neither do I look for feedback to increase my count. I've been a regular, moderate volume seller on eBay since 1997 yet my post count @ ~300 looks like I started recently.

When the taxman eventually comes, I'd have to think he'll start at the high feedback counts & work his way down. As eBay supposedly purges the old records each year, the only thing to measure my frequency is my feedback count @ ~4/month. (At least that is what I tell myself to make me feel smart.)

What happens is that power sellers and high-volume sellers ship an item, wait to make sure the transaction goes well, and wait for you to give them positive feedback before leaving yours. If you give them negative, they'll do the same to you in revenge, and negative feedback from some guy with 30 points looks a lot less problematic than from someone with several thousand.

When I buy or sell, I wait to make sure that the transaction has been completed (item recieved undamaged and payment not revoked or cancelled) and leave the appropriate feedback.

i dont think you need to be so worried about the whole eye for an eye feedback, if you did what you should you will probably get good feed back.
