Trying to name a particular piece of furniture
 

I've been having a hell of a time finding a particular piece of furniture, and I think the problem is that I don't know the nomenclature.

I'm hoping the wise old owls of the TFP can help out.

Here is the image in my head:

think of an accountant's or banker's office circa 1900. There is a man sitting at a roll-top desk, green eyeshade, brass lamp (probably with a green cover) on top of the desk.

The chair he is sitting on is wood, with leather padding on the seat and back. It swivels and tilts back. It might even have brass studs on the edges of the padding, holding the leather to the wood. For some reason, in the image in my head, the leather is green. I suppose it could also be that particular shade of reddish umber that one sees on old leather furniture. The color of the leather is not a critical item, but I would prefer not black.

So what is this called?

The closest things I've found online are called "banker's chairs" (link, link), but these aren't quite right - they rarely have the back padding I'm looking for. I've also seen something called a "mission chair" (link, link) but these have the same problem.

To add to the wrinkle, I'm really hoping for something antique. I don't want a chair plunked on top of the typical modern black plastic swivel/tilt mechanism. I want the big clunky metal contraption. I'm guessing those just aren't made anymore.

So can someone help?

Each of those was sort of in the ballpark, but a bit more ornate than I am looking for. To cram it into my mental picture, those were the chairs of the partner at the accounting firm or bank. I am looking for the plebian's chair.

Edit: I quite like that third one, though. If I don't find the chair in my head, I might go with that. Thanks!

I know the chair looks kinda crappy, but is this your style? There are some more on the site, but I think this would be the closes to my mental picture of your mental picture :-)

I thought this is what you were talking about... guess not.

One thing to note... while antiques can look nice, they can also be murder on your back.

Here's another one. Pretty close, but a bit more ornate than I'm thinking about.

Ok, I kinda think I can see where you're coming from. I have a "retro room" study which contains no aparently modern technology. Even the telephone is over 50 years old.

My desk is a "partners desk" and I have one of those green eyelid bankers' lamps on it. My chair is a "captains chair" and I think this is what you mean. See this link for a picture.

My chair and desktop is in the rich wine / burgundy colour you mention. My walls are a period green.
