Applying eyeliner; advise a guy.
Off out to the local goth club later, and for added effect I have purchased a single, kohl based eyeliner. Can this be used to make smoldering Johnny Depp style eyes, or am I going to need more equipment than that?
(Just after general tips before I either lose an eye, or look like a kid in his Mom's makeup box)

Hmm, he had on dark grey eyeshadow as well, l but eyeliner is pretty nice all by itself.
One cool thing is to take it just a little past the outside edge, which gives it an almost egyptian look (but not too far past, cause ya ain't King Tut )

Grab some makeup remover, cotton pads, and be prepared to experiment.
Make sure you roll the tip of the liner between two fingers first to warm it up...you want the liner a little on the soft side. Where you go from here depends on how thick you want it. Since you expressed interest in looking like Johnny Depp I expect you should do the following: 1) Apply a thick line close to but beneath the lashes on your lower lid. 2) Carefully apply eyeliner to inner lid (above lashes). This is very tricky. Be careful. 3) Apply several thick lines on upper lid, above lashes but not beyond the crease. Smudge together to create a smoky look. Given you only have liner, that's probably your best tactic. If you also had a) dark gray shadow or b) cake liner, my recommendation would be different. Good luck.

Some additions to snowy's great post:
If you use contacts you shouldn't apply eyeliner at the inner lid at all, because it can ruin the contacts. Be very careful about mascara and eyeshadows too. Never put in or remove contacts with maked-up(?) eyes. To apply eyeliner to the inner lid without poking your eye out, pull the eyelid down a bit with the hand not holding the pencil first. Hold the pencil in your left hand when doing the left eye, and vice versa. If you feel shaky, support the wrist with the other hand. |

Well, my well applied makeup helped me to meet an amazing, beautiful and interested girl.. Who is a makeup artist! It made me giggle.
I'm going to invest in a little more makeup, and push the boat out one night. It's fun. Thanks to everyone! More advice on makeup for guys is always welcome though..
