Math Nerds Unite For Equation Editor!

Ok... admit it, you are a math nerd and that is why you came to view this thread. Recently I have been trying to explain things to others through math equations, and there is no simple way to do so in the Project. Writing it out takes to long and trying to make an equation with what is avalaible (i.e. spaces, indents, and LOTS of parenthesis) is difficult beyond anything.

I don't really care but I think that it would be real cool to have a "pretty print" feature for text to make nice equations. Anyone with a TI-89 can no longer use any other calculator without going mad at trying to find a mistake.

So who else think's this is a good idea? If enough maybe we can get one.

How about just using the equation editor in Microsoft Word (or any other one, for that matter), taking a screenshot, and linking the JPG into the thread?

mmm....equation editor... Pretty print has changed my life.

If it can be done, I'd love an equation editor.

And yes, I am a nerd.

All I know is the equation editor in word is not as easy as it should be. Plus, I don't want to waste space here with so many JPEGs about. It would just be easier with a script that makes the equations. I wish I could remember the exact program but last year when my school used Macs :hiss: there was a graphing calculator by Pacific Tech (I think) that had the best equations.

you can use maple
or you can dl some simple equation editors which split the screen with their graphs off download.com
theres also derive from ti.com , i think they have a free student version.

Use LaTeX code. It's practically used universally.

There's also something written specifically for web-based equations, called MathML, but I don't know how it works, or if TFP would support it.

There is something called MathML (Math Markup Language). I don't know much about it, but it is used to format equations in HTML. It doesn't look like it works in the forums though.

I think this would be a great Idea, and although I dont know how they do it... my school has something installed on thier "WEBct" bulletin boards that allows you to post math pretty-print.

There's a nice pretty print feature on WebAssign.net. There might be a possibility to link through them, or maybe figure out what scripts they use.

Edited few minutes later:
Code:
http://www.webassign.net/v4cgi/extra/symbolicPreviewer.html?boxVal=
Here's the link. Just put the equation after the boxVal= and replace all the + with %2B (I think, whatever it is in hex ascii).
