Legal stuff

TFers: who here knows a lot about legal stuff? If so, I am in need of your help.

I am on the verge of opening a finance related forum and I need a good good registration agreement that makes it impossible for any user to sue me. Now, this forum is a legitimate operation and is intended to help people with investing and personal finance, but there is a possibility that someone somewhere will take some bad advice that may get posted on the forum and hold me responsible. What specifically can I add to the registration agreement to protect myself from getting sued?

The first thing you may want to consider before starting the forum is that you can't prevent someone from suing you. I know, your question is more about what your rules/disclaimer should contain but I thought I would start with that.

Do you hold any type of professional license to provide financial advice? If so, a disclaimer may not protect you from liability, just as a doctor providing medical advice is still held to the standard of their license, you would be also.

Is this as part of a service you are operating? Are you charging money to access this system?

Where are you located? Are you offering advice from a state, regional, national, etc., persepctive?

Will you actually be posting the advice, or only hosting the forum that allows others to post advice?

f6twister: I don't have any professional license.

Master_Shake: The site will be very much like tfproject.org, but with a focus on finance. I'm located in Minnesota and I'm assuming advice will be given on a national and/or global perspective... I will probably give advice when I can, and will be hosting a forum that allows others to post advice also.

Would I be allowed to post a link to it? It is more or less up right now.

Thanks!
