Clavus, didn't you get yourself locked out of your house totally naked? I can see why you would keep a some spare keys around.

lifehacks.

lifehacks. I like that name a lot for this. Maybe Hal could publish a whole bunch of these for the TFP, as a part of the knowledge base [#3]

A few more:

a better weed killer:
Just spray on a mix of vinegar and water [50% each] and it kills most weeds, takes the stubborn ones a bit longer.

I've found a bunch more here as well - http://www.themorningnews.org/archiv..._the_trade.php

- I 'discovered' another one, all on my own, today, I'm pretty proud of it
I'm using an Altoids candy container to keep all of those extra cards [i.e. spare library card, extra insurance card, red cross card, etc.] in my room, so I don't have to carry them all around and it keeps them organized in the tin.

Use ketchup to clean brass, silver, ect. The acidity of the tomato juice is enough to eat the tarnish off just about anything overnight. Just wash the ketchup off with water. Try it with a penny first to check it out. Much cheaper than the cleaner.

5 asprin in a dissolved in hot water will take out sweat stains. It takes a bit of work but will save a good T from nasty pit stains.

Automatic transmission fluid is a universal solvent for cleaning everything in the garage. You can clean greasy tools, brake dust, and just about anything grimy that comes out of a car with it. Just make sure you don't let it sit on your car's paint. Follow up with degreaser and your stuff is as good as new. ATF followed by degreaser also works as a cheap way of conditioning/shining fake leather shoes.

Instead of paying $60 for an engine flush at a fast oil change garage if you go too long without changing yor oil (anything 5000 miles and up under normal conditions,) you can save yourself a bunch of money. Drain your oil, fill the oil pan to capacity with standard ATF (Mercon/Dexron III, the cheapest stuff you can find at Auto Zone/Pep boys,) run for 5 minutes, then drain it, replace the filter, and fill with oil like normal. Instead of paying for the engine flush stuff ($30 wiht 1/2 off employee discount,) we do this at work. Additionally, you'll save a lot of money by learning to change your own oil and replace your own air filter, pcv, etc.
