Know what the college and/or university is, a bit of its history and such. Know why you want to go there. Have an idea of what you intend to participate in. Be ready to ask questions about that last one. How are you going to pay for tuition and expenses?
Who are/were you in high school? What activities did you participate in? What were your [least] favorite subjects/teachers and why? How have you contributed to your community? What experience do you bring with you? OTOH, it's been 23 years since I did that, back in 1981, so I may have forgotten a few things, and other stuff may have changed, like the "contributed to your community" one. I don't recall that being important, but I understand that is one thing that has changed. How much those questions matter is something I don't know. Also, dress well, groom well, and don't act like Maleficent's "Jymmi". In fact that whole thread may have some applicability here, where "benefits" are what you're going there for. That is, what kind of a social life do you expect? And what kind of subjects do you intend to study [job]? |

Make sure you ask the school interviewer questions, like what kind of job recruiting they have for grads, what companies do grads in you major tend to work for, social life, if you're dpoing pre-law or pre-med ask what the rate of graduate school acceptance is, etc.
By your asking questions you show an interest in the school and impress the school. Good luck and I'm sure you will do well.

I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. My response is, "I like to put forks in an eletrical socket, just LOVE that feeling, can't ever get enough of it, so will you let me put this copper fork in that electric socket?" |

some things that came up in mine:
- Talk about your extracurriculars, and how you're going to continue them in college [hopefully you are] and what your interests are. - remember that the college is asking themselves "What can this kid do to make our college be a better place and look more diverse/sophisticated/popular/etc ?" - Ask the interviewer what they think is the strengths of the college and what they think can be improved upon. [that q really impressed them during my butler interview][just be careful how your ask the question, in terms of tone and verbage] - Hopefully, you're not taking all blowoff classes this year, so, that will show them your sincerity about college [that you're not going just to go, but rather to further your education] Also, go to your local library [or buy a used copy on amazon] of http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books Looking beyond the ivy league by loren pope</a> and read the chapter on interviewing. The book was really helpful so far in my college app. process. /high senior, already been through a few interviews [canisius, butler] |
