MC Escher's "Metamorphose" Wall Border

Hey everybody! I'm not sure if this classifies as "How-To": I couldn't decide between posting in Artwork or here, since the artwork this is based upon is certainly not my creation, although the implementation is. Anyway, a few days back, I was looking around my room and it felt rather bland. I knew I wanted to put something on my walls, but wasn't sure what exactly. I was intrigued by the Rasterbator (a free web service that allows images to be resized and printed in a "dot-matrix" fashion into huge posters/banners: Check it out at http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/), and after looking for some art to "Rasterbate", I came across Escher's "Metamorphose", a huge wood-block piece of art. Since the Rasterbator doesn't handle works with such detail very well, I decided to take matters into my own hands. So, I compiled the images I had found of the masterpiece, resized/scaled them, and printed it out in about 10"-long pieces to use as a border for my room. I trimmed off the borders and attached them to the walls with some "Poster Tape". The results were great! Here's a compilation of 3 pictures I took.

You can view a higher-res version at http://www.flameingsink.com/images/borderfinished.jpg. If you're interested in following suit, I can send you the 6"-wide scaled pieces of the border. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I love it.

Does the image "morph" in a loop? I mean, is there a visual seam anywhere except where beginning and end meet?

Very very cool! I don't think I've seen those in colour before, very neat.

Thanks for the comments! Actually, there is no visual seam whatsoever in the piece. Escher designed the end and beginning to meet flawlessly. The pattern begins at the word "Metamorphose" (which is surrounded with a fuzzy rectangular border), and I placed this section in the corner of the room. I worked backwards to finish the other adjacent wall, so the area in the corner is where the beginning and end meet. You can see the darkened rectangle in the middle of the pattern near the corner of the room being repeated to the right of the clock, so the repeated pattern is roughly 8' long. I wish I could've done the entire perimeter of the wall, but this room has slanted ceilings.

Very cool. I also dig your nearly complete set of PC Gamer mags. I ended up tossing out a lot of the early ones, so I only get a small chunk of the logo when I stack them all together. ;) :D
