Where to buy poker chips?

I'm looking for a nice set of decently heavy clay poker chips to buy, as part of the whole college experience thing. Anyone know where I'd go to find these on the cheap?

Thanks,
-John

Here we go, more than you ever wanted to know about poker chips...

Depends on whether you want real casino poker chips (casino style clay composite Chipco or Paulson brand chips) or whether you want the do-able but much cheaper injection molded chips.

The ones on ebay that are sold for $100 for a set of 500+ are the injection molded ones. They are 11.5 grams, and are essentially plastic, for all intents and purposes. They typically have suits, dice, or diamonds on the outer part, and they contain a metal disc inside for weighting purposes. They clink when you splash the pot with them.

The real poker chips made by Chipco or Paulson are much more expensive, ranging from $0.75 to $1.00+ PER chip. These are the companies that make actual casino chips for actual casinos. There is no such thing as a true "clay" chip anymore, but these are the closest thing, clay composite. They are 10.0 grams. The Chipco chips are smooth or have a matte texture, and can be printed fully using the entire chip and often have either a color pattern or words on the edges. The Paulson chips are the oldest and most well known, they typically have a design in the center of the chip, and have a hat and cane mold pressed into the outer radius of the chip.

If you want sample pictures, PM me or as in thread - I don't want to post the pictures, as it would probably be a form of advertising for the sites that actually have good pictures of these chips... but basically, the original statement remains - it depends on just how good of quality you want in a poker chip.

2 of my friends bought set of 500 from costco for 60 bucks. both 11.5 grams but depends on the styling you get, one of sets were clay and the other was that plastic type. both were heavy but you can tell the differeance in feel and sound.

I got mine from 5stardeal.com who also sells on ebay but have recently seen sets sell at places like COSTCO here in the states rather cheap.

i paid like $100 or so for mine, 500 11.5g chips, 2 dcks of used vegas cards and some dice. all came in a nice aluminum case...

another thing that is good to get is a set of KEM CARDS. do a search on ebay. they are plastic poker cards and are very nice to shuffle and deal. run sbout $18 for 2 packs... i think that was the cost anyways

good luck...

I don't know, it might be easier to rob a bank and buy the chips.

Go to ebay and do a search for Joe Camel. They sometimes have some great clay chips in a metal container on auction that were made before the ban. Most people get them for collectors items though. Banned stuff appeals to me for some reason.

Perhaps I missed the point about the ban in the thread, but why are there banned chips? Is clay an endangered spieces now?

LOL. No the government forced them to stop using Joe Camel in their ads and promotional products because Joe was getting too popular with younger folks and enticing them to smoke. At least that's the reason they used.

Granted, I have no idea why, but here's my uneducated guess: to stop people from going out, purchasing their own casino-like chips, and bringing them into the casino to play.

I got mine when Game Keeper went out of business. Got 500 chips and a case for 100 bucks. Overestimated how many white chips I'd want and forgot to get a puck though.

Penndude, you got poker stuff at your store?

Friend got nice "clay" chips on ebay with a bitchen' metal carrying case for $75. 500 chips, dice, some cards thrown in.

Costco had a similar set on sale a month later for $60.

Poker night every friday. Woot!
