Telephone wiring

Anyone know where I could get a quick tutorial on how to split phone wire for use throughout the house. Basically, I have one line coming in that I need to split to 5 phone throughout the house. Thanks in advance for your help...

Our local phone company has a pretty easy to understand guide online at:

Help me out with what you mean by 'split'. Is the house currently wired for telephones? How many lines (numbers) are you trying to distribute? The line coming in-does it terminate outside the house in a gray box about 5 x 7, or does it enter the house and stop at a black device in the basement with exposed wires and hex nut terminals? It sounds as though you want to send a single telephone number to 5 different wall jacks. Is that correct?
