what maths to compliment accounting?

i'm stumped. i've asked around uni, i've got an appointment with an accounting academic regarding this next week, but i thought i'd try the wise people at TFP to my problem.

I'm enrolled in bach of commerce, and plan to major in accounting. however, i have enough credit points to take on some additional units outside of commerce faculty, so i'm thinking a maths minor alongside it.

what would be a better direction, based on the fact that i have to take probability & statistics subjects in 2nd year no matter what (course requirement).

taking financial maths (2nd subject) in 2nd year, then stochastic modelling (2nd subject) in 3rd year

or taking an additional first year subject in 2nd year, then a 2nd year introduction to operations research. and decision making subjects? (the reason for the additional 1st year subject is because i dont meet the pre-requisites for operations research with the 1st year units i've done so far, i'm lacking linear algebra).

for accounting, i have to take 2 finance units as part of the requirements, and am interested in learning more in the field. my maths background is quite strong, and enjoy it thoroughly.

i just dont know which way to go would be more beneficial later on? any thoughts?

I did an EE degree several years before going back and doing a MBA. I found that an engineering oriented probability/signals class gave me the background to understand the derivation of different distributions in statistics.

I think a math class dealing with Matrices would help immensely in an accounting degree. Perhaps a Statistics class would help also?

Accounting doesnt require deep math knowledge. Just take the courses you prefer and that you think you can have the best grades in.

i've dealt with matrices this year in the maths i took, so i guess thats a good start. I'm taking 2nd year probability and statistics next year. these are a step above the minimum requirements for my degree, but after speaking with an academic about taking standard or advanced quantitative subjects based on my math marks to date, they said i'd be bored shitless doing the standard level, and taking the advanced quantitative subjects will allow me to take on a statistics minor if i want to. the standards bring me to a dead end.

i've leaned away from maths next year (with the exception of prob & stats), and am doing personal finance & another accounting unit that will gain me an exemption from a professional exam after graduating.

cheers
