Pet Friendly Lawn Care

Hey all I have a question. I would seriously like to winterize my lawn and keep it up in the spring. However, I don't want to harm my two dogs that like to go out in the yard and play. We have a big fenced in yard. The dogs aren't outside all of the time -- but I would like to do something that possibly wouldn't harm the dogs. Can Chem-Lawn or a company like that do something in the spring time that would be safe? How about winterizing? Can I put anything down that would be safe?

Thanks.

I know when they come out and do stuff for us to winterize our lawn, they put up Chem-Lawn flagthingies - and tell us to keep the dogs off the lawn for 24 hours.

So if you can take your dogs for a walk instead of letting them out in the yard, then it should be okay But you can prob. ask ChemLawn

Go Green!

Never mind the chem-any-fucking-thing. your lawn does not need chemicals, it needs your care. Try this link for some information on lawn care:
http://www.local-motion.org/greengrass.html

Really, it's a bit more work to get your lawn to be care-free this way, but once it is, it's less work than before, and you can EAT it if you want to. Safe for dogs? Yup, and kids and the planet. Really, go green and you'll be so glad you did, and don't go back to the chemical sprayers, they're not worth the money, or the carcinoma, really.

That site doesn't seem to be loading. I'm wondering what is says about sod worms, cinch bugs, mole crickets, and other things that will turn your lawn into a big patch of brown in no time.

Hmmm... the site is loading fine for me, but I only posted it as an example. There are thousands of sites that will give you the same or more info on the subject. As for critters that destroy lawn, what can I say except that bugs exist. There are many things you can do to discourage any infestatoin though, and it's all about research. Dumping chemicals on your lawn as a first resort rather than an absolute last resort is just bad thinking, and that's the only point I'm really trying to make.

Dogs and lawns

One question - I have a dog and a small yard. I have trouble w/ yellow spots from where he pees. Do you have a sprinkler system that keeps your lawn "rinsed"? How do you prevent it?

Course, the fact that my dog rips up the lawn doesn't help.

I spray a mix on my lawn using a hose end sprayer with a mix of the following:

Large can of cheap beer.
Half bottle of household ammonia.
Small bottle of flea and tick dog shampoo.

Sound goofy? Try spraying it once every 3 weeks during the growing season.

Regards
