How to make curtains/drapes?
I have some areas of my dorm room (notably my closet area) I want to cover up with curtains/drapes. So I was wondering what is the easiest way to make drapes that allow easy access? I have access to a sewing machine, so I could use it, but I'm not talented with it at all, meaning I can do straight lines, but don't know any thing else

Retractable curtain rods to put up in the window/door area, if rods aren't already there.
Go down to your local head shop or someplace that sells tapestries. Pick a cool design, head to the hardware/department store, and buy the "pinch rings" that will hold the tapestries and hang em on the rod. That's the quickest, cheapest set of curtains I've ever used. |

I made some cute little curtains for my bf's bathroom and I'd only had my sewing machine for like, 2 days. LOL
All I did was cut out two pieces of material the size I wanted the curtains, plus 4 inches at the top to fold over (to insert the rod) (heh, dirty!) and then I hemmed them up about half an inch on the sides and bottom. At the top, I measured the width of the rod (dirty again!) and did two sets of stitches, one on the bottom and one on the top to make it easy to insert. He just had a tension rod in his bathroom, so it was super easy to do. Oh, and I did a little balloon valance at the top. You can see it here if you want: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1.../curtains2.jpg Check out http://www.craftster.org too, because they usually have awesome ideas and tutorials. ![]()

There are also spring rod shower curtains that you can use, they're a little sturdier than a curtain rod, it's honestly probably cheaper to buy curtains than it is to make them.
Sheers sell for under 10 dollars a pair in most places, you can get heavier weight curtains for more money, or as was suggested, a shower curtain.
