New House Windows - Magic Windows?
I'm going to put new windows on my house. I'm in the pick-out-a-brand-of-window stage right now. The brand I have been most impressed with so far has the unlikely name "Magic Windows." They seem to be really solid, well-made and have some nice features that other brands lack. They come with a fully transferable, lifetime warranty on manufactureing and installation.
Does anyone have any experience with Magic Windows? Any other brands I should check out, or avoid? http://www.magic-window.com/

Check out Republic Windows (if there is a local dealer)--pretty good Double Pane/Low e/etc. window
Their website didn't really say much about efficiency, "r" rating, etc. A couple of suggestions: 1) Extruded vinyl is very strong for a frame. Extruded aluminum for screen frames is the best 2) Some companies offer a glass replacement warranty as well, which is nice to have 3) The best brand I have ever seen was Shuco. Don't know if they are around any more, but they were really good windows (hefty price tag though) 4) Personally, I think efficiency ratings are the most important thing to use when comparing windows.

oh yeah...
Aluminum spacers between the panes as aluminum doesn't conduct as much and makes seals last longer Some type of inert gas between the panes. i.e. Argon

We usually put Windsor windows in the houses we build. Good standard windows, decent selection and doesn't hurt the pocket too badly.
http://www.windsorwindows.com Also, I would reccomend getting vinyl-clad windows. Much better than wood (Durability etc.), and these days they don't look trashy like they used to.

Sorry to resurect the old post, but I'm considering replacing the windows in my home as well. The house is at least 55 years old and has been in the family that long. Needless to say the never-replaced windows are out of date and failing. You should see my utility bills.
I'd like to get some energy efficient, double pane windows for the house. I have 14 windows of various sizes. Let's say 13 because one of the windows is 11' x 6', and it was replaced only 11 years ago. How much should I expect to put inot this? I can afford a maximum one time payment of about $15,000, but not much more. I'd like to spend maybe $4,000- $9,000 (so I can put the rest in my daughters growing college fund). Thanks for the help. |
