How to Remove Old People Smell and Replace it with something better?
 

I looked for a thread on odor removal, but all I got was something concerning a jacket.

What's the best way to remove a smell from a home? Specifically MY home. :)

You see, I live with my grandma and there is some sort of smell that I detect when I walk into the door, but don’t notice it eventually.

I don’t want my new girlfriend to come over and find a home with an odor.


Best way to remove odor? (Open up the windows and run fans?)

I know charcoal is good at removing odors. Could I just keep some of that in the house?

I’m sure anything that works in the bathroom works in the entire home.

Any ideas?

If you just place charcoal arouund, it wont realy do anything. But, there are instructions on the web for carbon filters.

Man, you just gotta get rid of the body. The longer that you leave it there in the house the more and more it is going to smell.

Put lime (not the fuit) on the body to help stop the smell. ;)

Clean every thing. Anything air can pass thou and trap smells need to be washed or thrown away (couch, carpit, curtains, bed, ect...) It you have forced air heat the ducks need to be cleaned too.

Remove the old people and replace them with your girlfriend.

After the ducks are cleaned, dry and put them in a row. After dealing with other waterfowl, and you find a fowl odor present, initiate a bird search. You may wish to clean ducts, and ensure they are free of tape. In addition to carpit, attention should be paid to armpit, often a stinky spot, and other pits such as peach pit, plum pit, because rotting stone fruits are smelly, too. Stoned fruits can be smelly, but that's a hearse of a different color. (Think mauve)

There are odor absorbing rug sprays (or baking soda -- though it can be bad for the vaccuum) -- Febreeze is pretty good for a short term thing - if you can stand the smell of it.

The little dryer sheets you can stuff in between the cushions on the sofa and chairs to freshen up the room.

Open the windows - -especially on a good breezey day

Also: HAHAHAHAHA....

Burn candles, but not the heavy musky scented ones. I have found that fruity candles, like my grapefruit candle, really fills the room and lingers for a while. That is just a temporary cover up, though. Once you have lived in it for a while, it will pass, and your smell will fill it. Just keep everything clean, vacuum the carpets A LOT, and like he said, put the lime in the coconut.

I have a similar problem- the previous tennant had a dog, so whenever it gets humid, our place smells like urine. That is a more diffucult thing to remove, since it is in the carpets, and I am sure the landlord won't replace them.
