Semper Phi?
I have always seen this associated with the marines but i have no idea what it means. Can anyone help me out?
|
Semper Fi (not Phi) or Semper Fidelis is Latin.
It means "Always Faithful" and is the motto of the Marine Corps. |
It's not what you're asking, but:
phi = (1+sqrt(5))/2 Phi is the golden ratio, associated with the Fibonacci sequence. Google it for an interesting read. |
wow! ask one quesiton and get an answer for something completely different. very cool thanks. no wonder why i couldn't find any info on it. maybe next time i should spell correctly. anyway thanks again.
|
phi (the golden ratio) can also be expressed as the continued root
phi=sqrt(1+sqrt(1+sqrt(1+sqrt(1...) |

Any fan of Metal Gear Solid 2 could have told ya that. =P
|
Quite true.
"Who dares, wins." :D |
Semper fidelus is the full phrase
They shortend it because if your smart enough to find your way to the recruiting station youre smart enough to be a marine humourisly enough my dad told me that, a marine supply sergeant during vietnam |
MGS2 was HORRIBLE in the use for that.
Like with Snake suddenly yelling "Semper Fi!!!" as if people wouldn't say "Hey.. only marines say that!" It was SO out of place.. He might as well have come out and said, "HEY GUYS, I'M SNAKE!" |
Agreed, stompy - because obviously a Navy SEAL Lieutenant would use the catchphrase of the Marine Corps...
|
Well, building on the theme of slightly altering the Marine motto...

Disgraceful that people feel the need to pretend to be in the military to impress others. And it is a pretty big federal crime to pretend to be an officer when you're not, so I guess I can understand why the FBI has people set up just to catch them.

However, if they can get a fake military ID, having access to a PX and/or commisary is invaluable - no tax, very cheap prices, wide range of items. |

....and sad. It doesn't excuse what the guy did, but I feel sorry for him that this was the best way he could come up with to deal with his feelings. You have to be pretty down on yourself to pretend you are someone (or something) else to get respect/attention. |
seimper phi first to die
|
Semper Fi, not Phi. Phi is pronounced "fee".
|
Semper Fi, do or die, gun-ho, gun-ho!
|
What do you think the odds are that a marine wannabe loser who wears fake medals just happens to be at an affair which is attended by someone who specializes in apprehending people who wear fake medals? Thats gotta be a longshot!
