Anyone tile their garage with Armstrong tile?
I am talking about the industrial grade stuff. You can get at Home Depot.
If so how well has it held up? |
If the surface preparation is done in accordance with the guidelines of the resilient flooring institute, and the application is acceptable per Armstrong's spec for the flooring product, it should be OK.
Last time I checked, the big boxes weren't selling what I would call industrial grade flooring. That still has to be procured from wholesale outlets which cater primarily to the trade, and may refuse to sell directly to the end user. |
I like that diamond plate looking rubber mat. Looks good, feels good underfoot, and should last years.

Ok, Commercial grade, oops.
I take it you guys have not finished your garage with it? I am looking at a cost factor to. This looks to be a nice upgrade yet not cost as much as "professional" flooring choices. You know the stuff at $30 a square foot. |
I know of no one who has done what you describe. Some potential problems are: tire heat causing softening of adhesive (heat is sometimes used to remove flooring), staining from ordinary leaks, water issues from rain/snow melt, etc. Most people who desire something other than plain concrete will go with some type of epoxy coating, unless they are extremely wealthy and can indulge in something such as terrazzo.

Some of my friends on the Porsche board have done this with no issues.
The tile is designed for this and other type of use. I was just curious if anyone else had experiences with this tile Oh and the floor is already Epoxied but tile will be much nicer. |
At my old shop (Circuit City) they put that stuff over the epoxied floor. I haven't been there in about 6 months. I'll go by there tommorow to say hi and see how the floor held up.

Cool thanks!

My husband, moonstrucksoul is a ceiling mechanic. His Co. always uses Armstrong. Does that tell you? lol
He and his co-workers have also used it for personal use. |
I installed the exact tiles you speak of. Easy to install (follow directions) and have held up extremely well in the five years or so they have been down. I get a professional to clean them every 6 months or so for $50 bucks. Worth the money. Don't wax the tiles! I would reccomend it to anyone.

I can't believe how inexpensive the tiles are. My garage is 660 a square feet and the cost to tile will be 398.00.
Once the garage warms up a bit I will be installing the tile. Thanks gang |
