Fix a small hole in a dress shirt?
 

I burned a tiny hole in one of my favorite 100% cotton dress shirts. I want to glue a small patch of fabric under the hole on the inside of the hole. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know what kind of glue or adhesive would work and not be messy?

There are many iron on products. I suggest you contact a local store that sells sewing machines/supplies.

An alterations shop should be able to fix it. they fixed 2 small holes in the leg of my good pants.

if it's small enough you could just put a couple of stitches in it, they won't be noticable.

What I really want to do is take a small piece of fabric from an unimportant part of the shirt and glue it behind the hole. Is there a fabric glue that I can use to do this?

Bring it to the Drycleaners, maybe they can do something with it

It is a roll of tape/fabric that becomes adhesive when you iron it.

Visit a fabric or craft store. They'll have it for sure. You'll need to reinforce that patch with a little darning too.

Now we're getting somewhere.

I have a dress shirt that I inherited that has been mended with something like that.

My final question:

Will super glue work and not come out in the wash!?!@?@?!

Super glue would work, but leave a very stiff/rigid section of shirt.

I would still recommend finishing things off with a darning.

It will eventually wash out too. Maybe after thousands of washes or so.

This is true for stitch witchery as well. It is used really to secure what you are about to complete with needle and thread. Kind of like a jig. Not all that effective as a permanent bond.

Supre glue will harden, crack, and crack the fabric along with it.
