what to do with glass blocks?
i have like 40 glass blocks and i have no idea what to do with them i would love to make something but i cant think of anything.....so can you give me some ideas please
and igloo? a divider wall with internal illumination
How about a shower wall? Depending on your setup, you could have a wall one side, and a door the other. Too bad you dont have more. Also depends on how much effort you want to put in. They work well in entrance hallways, giving an opaque view into another room.
Pick up some toggle switches, a 10W light socket and light bulb. Drill the space for the light bulb from the bottom of the block. Insert the socket w/ bulb and seal with silicone.
Voila a light that sells at IKEA for $25CAN. |
Integrate them at odd angles into a wall.
Do you have an outdoor area you spend time in? You could make some sort of under-lit planter box kinda thing.
Isn't there a website out there that shows one how to stuff a kitten in a bottle? You could try that.
If it could not be a partition of sorts, I too was thinking something to do with light, but other than sticking a nipple through it and making a lamp out of it or feeding a couple Xmas lights in there, I can't think of much. Do you have a basement that has shiatty old well windows? That's always a good way to put 8 of them to good use. |
I saw some put into a dining room table, that looked pretty good. I'd go as far as putting colored lights under/behind/in them to give them a warm glow.
Bathroom Window would be a good place for them, can't see in but lets good light into the room... umm I can't think of anything else |
yea the bathroom window is a good idea but i already did that thanks anyway =)

I like an igloo/green house/walk in prism type of deal. Just don't be in it in an earthquake
lol
my freinds have them set up as a shower wall. damn sexy when you can see the shape of a woman behind htem, but not make out the details. very sensual.
in a wall that's one good way. I have installed them their and in entry ways in some homes I like both.
pretend your greek? Break em!!!!!
OK! OK! just kidding! |
Drill patterned holes into them- make dice
(Granted, you can only roll them once, but at least it will be interesting when you do) |
Take them to the rifle range.
lawn art of some sort?
a path for your back yard? there might be some place that recycles glass? |
Get hold of a van der graff generator stand on the glass blocks and have great fun electrocuting your friends!!!
Add a couple sheets tempered glass and make coffee and end tables Mine look really good.
Make a head board and put a fluro tube behind it. Looks great but it's not so good for leaning back on!!
The Great Pyramid of Giza... :)
Send 'em my way! :) We've got some basement windows we want to replace - and I can't stand the curtains my wife picked out for privacy.
Seriously, did you find it hard to install the ones you did use? |
I bet you could build a kickass patio light with them.
Find an unused corner of your place, put 'em in a big disorganized pile and with a low power light stuck inside and just make a weird sculpture.
Make a house out of them and throw stones?
