Refrigerator: The compressor is moaning
Hi,
I'm a college student who moved in with my grandma to save money for college about a little over year or two ago. Her refrigerator sometimes "moans." The unit in the freezer will make a noise sometimes. If you hit it, it will stop making the noise. It will stop on its own also. Should I start saving up for a new refrigerator? She said that it's done that for years. I'm going to move out by the end of 2004 to go to a university. Should I just let it run it's coarse? If i buy another frige, any advice? PS I'm not sure if I asked this before. I don't think so. The hollidays have been crazy! :) Happy New Year |
I don't know too much about fridges, but one maintenance item you can do is to clean the grill/vent at the bottom of the front of the fridge. The dirt and clog in this vent reduces the efficiency of the fridge's workings.

Used refrigerators are common, find one. It sounds like a bearing has gone bad. If it is very old, it uses tons more electricity than even a recent used one. Look around, you should find one for 150 bucks.
Switching em out is the only main pain. |
It's probally teh fan....... the main thing that goes bad in refrigerators in the cooling fan for the compresser.

bad compressor = sad, warm food
A service call = the cost of a service call. Get a new fridge |
