Electrolysis
I was wondering if anybody knew of a way to perform electrolysis and get the gases into seperate tanks with parts that could be found in any common hardware store(i.e. Home Depot).
Also, what type of chemicals do I need to put in there to make it work. I heard that if you use salt, you get chlorine gas. Thanks in advance. |
Cap off two tanks of liquid, invert them, place them upside-down in a tub of the liquid, then uncap them. Insert the electrodes, turn them on, and you'll have two tanks filled with the gas. This won't compress it, but you'll have it.
If you mix salt with water, you'll end up with hydrogen and chlorine gas in the tank over the positive electrode, and oxygen gas in the tank surrounding the negative electrode, which will have sodium ions caked onto it. |
