MIT OpenCourseWare
I personally believe this thread right here should be made sticky.
For the information of all knowledge enthusiasts and alike, MIT is offering open course ware, which is basically a project they've undertaken that gives free access to a large portion of their course materials. And here it is. |
Thank you!
I Can't believe no one has responded to this! thanks so much for sharing that link. I'm sure it is going to prove a great resource.
maddemon ps...second the move to sticky this! |
kickaaaaaaaaass
sticky sticky. |
wow
This is an amazing resource in certain areas. This is a brilliant idea, and I hope more universities decide to do something like this.
|
Excellent stickyThread :)
i've known about this site for almost since its very beginning... ...and recently, i've always been meaning to post it here, but kept forgetting. glad to see it here finally. :) |
Looks pretty damn cool! Going to get a lot of use out of this I imagine!
Cheers rainheart. p.s. the reason people mightn't be clicking this thread is the title. I didn't have a clue what "MIT OpenCourseWare" was, so I didn't think the thread would be of interest to me) |
nice. i gotta check it out
|
Wow, interesting concept. I like it. Thanks tons for the post!
|
real nice. don't have time for it tho.
|
I like this site! There is also something like this at Berkeley, webcasts of some of the courses ranging from 2001. Very knowledgeable if u have the time.
http://webcast.berkeley.edu/courses/schedule.html |
Sry for new message, but whats sticky?
|
Was wondering if Halx and tfp would be willing to allow a few course discussions to take place on this forum, as the MIT courseware would be wonderful in a group environment. This could eventually consume quite a bit of resourses though....so I figured I would ask first.
Anyone interested?or should we run a poll? |
tecoyah, i would definitely be up for it.

Man, this is going to be absolutely indespensible for my next paper, whatever that may be. Thanks for posting this!
|
awesome dude
why the fuck isnt this more widely known. Oh yeah, my college is lame.
|
this is supremely cool. it would rival sliced bread, however, if there was some kind of audio or video streaming of lecutres.
|
Thank you very much. Ive always thought this would be an amazing idea for a University or College
|
WOW!
I am a freshman right now and this may prove very useful for everything! Especially next year when I start my hardcore science courses. -Robert |
I read about this on WIRED. And man, did it save my Linear Algerbra.

i know a lot of the material is up to individual professors; however, some of the progress in posting things online is hampered by the need to have the correct copyright acknowledgments on everything, etc. only a few lectures are actually recorded on video, and for most of those i think you need MIT web certificates. there's still a lot of good stuff that doesn't require certificates on many of the class websites, however.
another good resource is http://mitworld.mit.edu/ basically a compilation of video lectures that have been given here, either on special occasions or the weekly colloquia, some good stuff there |
This is great.
This is like instead of going to college teach yourself ! The ADHD way! |
Holy shit, this is amazing. Most of the courses I myself am interested in seem to have little material, but when I eventually psych myself up for some physics and coourses outside my discipline, this will come in more than handy. Thanks a bunch!
|
It's amazing that MIT is offering so much knowledge for free! I'm definitely going to be checking out this resource over the next few months. Thanks, rainheart!
|
Great! No if only I could find these textbooks scanned in.... maybe kazaa...
maybe not... Thanks for the post. |

|
Thax a lot rainheart ... it is really an amazing post ...
|
I like the potential. I do hope they see the response as motivation to increase materials available.
|
Fantastic initiative.
|
late reply, but damn... endless possibilities. GREAT FIND!
|
This should help in my pre-back-to-college prep. Astrophysics is not for the weak of heart... I need to polish up my math skills hard core!
|
good thread very informative, knew about the opencourseware but didn't know about online lectures
|
great find, thanks for sharing
now i to can be an expert in plasma transport theory! |
Thanks for the link.
Maybe I might learn something now |
That is excellent. The literature section was sort of useless, but the list of Spanish language resources was fantastic. Thanks a million.

Thanks to this thread, I finally learned how to do integration by parts -- and with the AP test tomorrow!
|
Kick ass!!
Thanks for this. I hope that site will still be up a year and a half from now when I finish my current degree program. That's the only way I'll have time for this. |
awsome site. I just looked up film.
|
I swear, my college is blocking this site. I've tried to get on for the past week, and assumed that there was something wrong with the OCW part of MIT's site. Then it appears on Digg, and I still can't access it.
My college doesn't want me to learn :hmm: EDIT: about friggin' time. I checked it every day, and it only starts working now. |
I'll just add my "this thread kicks ass comment", before I lose myself in the coursework
thanks |

I'd been listening to an MIT philosophy lecture in the car, which I'd got off P2P networks. Now I know where I can get the rest. : > |
This is the best thing I have ever seen posted on this forum. Ever.

If anyone is looking for a really great, rigorous introduction to COmputer Science, check out the page for 6.001 Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. It has a link to the online version of Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs by Abelson and Sussman, which is a fantastic book.

I thoroughly enjoyed UC Berkeley Webcasts | Video and Podcasts: Fall 2007 Courses too. Yale has a similar service with good quality video, but the courses are very few.
