Law Question

Ok so I live with 2 other room mates. they are bf/gf. lately weve been having ALOT of problems and I want to move out. When we moved in the gf signed the lease and her bf and I only signed housing agreements. When I leave will they be able to sue me for leaving before the lease is up?

well, they can't sue you for leaving... non-payment of the rent is another thing altogether though... you'll have to look at the housing agreement that you signed to see what it says. there may be an "out" clause, but probably not. you may be either stuck with paying rent, living there, or maybe finding a sub-letter to replace you. but if you don't pay, then you could get sued.

Friction, are you a student? If you are, I suggest that you go to your student union; they often have legal counsel who offer free advice to students, and since this is the kind of problem students have a lot, they're pretty good with this stuff. Get a copy of the lease and your agreement if you can, and go and talk to that counsel.

@ Mael -- Thank you for your help, I went to the housing office yesterday and requested to see the agreement. I found that there was no "out" clause and am able to move out of my current situation whenever I please. :)
