color of piss
ok, i may be weird and something's wrong with my bladder. but sometimes my piss is very dark yellow and sometimes it's clear enough to mistake it for water. anyone know what causes this?
|
I'm no expert, but I believe that the more hydrated you are, the less color. If you have very dark urine, you probably need more fluids. Watch what happens when you drink beer all night, it will be as clear as water!!
|
Tru dat. In the mornings, my wizz is dark yellow. If I drink a lot throughout the day, it is much clearer.
|
It depends on a couple things, mostly on how hydrated you are, but also on how hard you are working. I have found that when I am really exerting myself, my pee is dark even if I am drinking enough water and I piss every forty five minutes or so.
Alcohol is another factor, as are other diuretics since they reduce the body's ability to 'concentrate' your urine in order to conserve water. |

Vitamin c also makes it yellow. So if you're drinking a lot of orange juice or something ...
|
Intensity of the color is determined by the concentration of chemicals in the body. The kidneys will filter out the unnecessary or unused portions of whatever has been ingested or is being expelled from the body. I know that if I take a Mega-Man vitamin, half an hour later my pee will look like radioactive waste. If i've just finished off a six-pack, it won't look like anything but water.
|
Ripsaw: Are you taking your vitamins with food, or on an empty stomach? Don't do the latter.
slant eyes: There are a lot of reasons for the color change. The main one is, as has been said, hydration. In USMC recruit training, there were charts (with photos) on the wall telling you how many more canteens of water you should be drinking when your pee was the pictured color. There're also kidney issues that make urine color change somewhat. I had a buddy who had to adjust his diet and take some medication because there were usable sugars in his urine that the kidney, apparently, was just passing up. If you think it's a serious problem, ask your doctor the next time you see him/her. |
Bottom line.
The white snow is safe to eat. |
When I was a kid, I once peed green, after drinking green-dyed 7up at a restaurant celebrating St. Patrick's day.

The color of your urine, among other things, is dependant on the amount of water soluble vitamins it contains. If you take a multi-vitamin daily then you will find that your piss is consistantly darker than most other people; 'B' vitamins especially. It also has to do with the content of Uric Acid, the 'piss' content in, well, piss.

I was once told it's the amount of vitamin C you have in your body.. And I have noticed my pee is very yellow if I take lots of vitamin C if I am sick.. Not exact about this statement, but by what happens when I take it I am pretty sure.
|
For any who are interested.
The color of your yellow urine is directly related to the concentration of urea. Urea is a product of protein metabolism. Medical note: if your urine is yellow or has an odor, you are exhibiting first stage dehydration. |
In layman's term, the longer you hold it in, the yellower it is.

Nice translation :D

vitamin B=yello pee

in boy scouts when backpacking, we called peeing a 'hydration check'--if it wasn't clear, you weren't drinking enough water. Yes, it yellows during hard work, but you CAN and should drink enough water to compensate for it...Trust me, when it's 125 degrees in the shade and you've got a 40 pound pack and 10 more miles of road ahead of you, you get real friendly with your body's cooling systems.

Let's not forget the Asparagus Factor; eating a lot of certain foods, like asparagus, will not only affect the smell of your piss but also give it an odd color. Somebody touched on that above, talking about drinking soft-drinks spiked with food coloring.
So if your piss has been normal and one day looks and smells weirrd, thing one is to recall whether you've been gorging on something out-of-the-ordinary. |
Beets will make yer pee cola colored and yer shit red. So if yer poo is red, don't shit yerself-hahahahahahahahaha-you prolly just had beets. Hepatitis-i think-b will also make yer pee cola colored. Mmm, cola.
|
Vitamins B and C make your pee yellow colored, but not dark yellow. You should probably save some in a sterile bottle (wash with water and a little bit of bleach, then just water, then dry thoroughly and seal until you use it) and bring it to your doctor just to make sure. YOu don't want to go into renal [kidney] failure just cause you were too timid to ask the doc.
|
Yeah, bro, it's totally about how much water you've had to drink in a given day. Ideally, day-time urine should be very light in color, if not clear. There's really no escaping the morning yellow, however.

Drink lots of water!
