How to get a rancid smell out of a new car

Just our luck.

My wife and I both recently bought new cars.

Over the weekend she accidentally left a bag of shopping in the boot (or "trunk" to you Americans). This bag had a packet of frozen burgers in it that proceeded to defrost and then go horribly smelly and rancid over the warm weekend.

Result?

A new car that smells like an abattoir.

Lovely jubbly...

Any suggestions?

If the meat didn't leak into the carpet and it's just the smell you're trying to get rid of, sprinkle a box of baking soda all over the carpet...... after a few days it should have absorbed the smell, vacuum it up and spray some febreze on the carpet.

Yeah febreeze owns, ashtons got the whole situation covered, perhaps thats because he transports dead bodies in his trunk, and has to get rid of that blood/flesh smell!! *runs aways scared*

aww man, to long w/o sleep..

Febreeze is amazing and yes it does the trick..
but remember
after febreezing, you need to let air INTO and OUT OF the trunk(try leaving it open in your garage, or something)

the stale, warm febreeze smell is just as bad as the hamburgers, trust me

Thanks guys.

I thought Fabreeze was just some cheesy gimick, but I've taken your advice and it does seem to have done the trick.

IF fEBREEZE DOESN'T WORK...HAVE IT OZONED AT THE DETAIL SHOP

Cut several apples into and leave in the trunk for a couple of days. I have used this method and it does help.

sell the car, or give it away. Thats what Seinfeld did!

Okay this reminds me of a story...one time I had a freezer filled with meat...like 400 dollars worth and the door somehow got left open a crack. I come home after a weekend away and the whole damn basement smelled. Unfortunatly febreeze didn't help and the smell took like 4 months to leave!

Vinegar. It still smells, but it removes all other smells. Once you have the vinegar smell, just use some air freshener spray to clean out the vinegar smell.
