A natural pest control for hornets?

Hi,
We are having a terrible problem with hornets around my house this year. As soon as I get rid of one nest another two or three spring up. I hate using pesticides, and they don't seem to be working. Does anyone know of a form of natural pest control that would help?

I have had pretty good luck pouring gas on the nest and torching them.... Uhhh assuming they the nest isnt on your house, or anything else that you dont want burned.....

I'm not so sure the gas/ fire thing with flying insects is the greatest strategy for keeping my hair. I had a childhood friend that tried this with bees. I think the end result was 7 surgeries and scars for life. I've never heard of a natural repellant for hornets though.

Thanks for the help. The nests are on the house or in bushes very near to it, so I think I'll skip the gasoline. And Bamrak's warning has me scared off.

Funny story about gasoline/hornets:

My sister is on her town's First Aid squad and her husband is on the fire department. Two or three years ago the Fire Department got a call about a house fire just after dark. As they pulled up to the house they decided the best way to position the truck was to back into the driveway. So, they pull beyond the house and back into the driveway.

They put out the fire but don't see anyone around. A woman comes out of the house a few minutes after the fire is out and asks where her husband is and didn't he meet you as you pulled into the driveway?

Turns out the guy had been fighting the hornets using some gas and fire and set part of the house on fire. When he saw the fire truck pass by the drive he went running after them only to run head first into a low branch on his front lawn. He was knocked out the whole time they were putting out the fire. They then had to call the first aid squad to treat this guy for his head injury.

Now, this isn't exactly natural but I believe it could be effective (albeit a little messy). Wait till early evening when most insects are in the hive. Take a can of that expanding insulation and shoot it into the hole. Voila.

The expanding insulation is definitely worth a try!

And i8one2 - don't kno why I didn't ask you before, search wizard that you are, Sir.

we have a lot of those wasps and hornets in south Texas-just use liquid dish soap in your pump up sprayer---mix with a lot of water, and spray them good---kills them every time and the mess washs off easily..

I just used the foaming spray to kill them then filled the openings of the nest

I shoot them with 22 long rifle federal "shot shells" in a buck mark or an ar15 with 22 conversion.

the shot shells have around 80 lead shot aboutthe size of a ball point pen ball. a miniature shot gun shell.

highly effective hornet controll. :)
