painting stairs
we are doing some home improvements, so we ripped the carpet off of our stairs to reveal some pretty nice wood underneath them.
this wood was probably not intended to be seen, so some of the joints aren't perfect. we wanted to stain, but it doesn't look like an option now. we think painting the steps will look nice if they would stay clean. is there any way to paint the steps white and keep them looking good, or is this pretty much out of the question? i was thinking maybe there would be a sealant or something we could put on top to keep the scuff marks down. any suggestions? thanks c_b |
there are high wearing paints designed for floors\ stairs
use one of those and you should be good to go. you could also get a clear poly based sealant. thing is they will be fairly slippery especially when wet just something to keep in mind. scuff marks - well most anything will scuff eventually just make people (including your selves) take off their shoes. |
I don't know the wear and tear on the paint is tough on it, definately an outdoor paint maybe look for one for decks specifically

thanks everyone. i'll look for some special paint intended for this purpose.
i love the tfp for this very reason. c_b |
High performance wood filler - minwax has a polyester resin based one with wood fibers or just use the bondo with the fibers. Then paint and then polyurathane. You might need to touch up the poly ever few years so that it doesn't wear through to the paint. Other options: I would go to a marine supply store (or on the web) and see what is available for high performance boat paint. They usually have non - skid formulas too.
