Sewing, stitches & all that.
Im interested too but the reason Im starting this thread is coz my sister is doing a fashion design type course. The teacher isnt being very helpfull & now she has to get an assignment/project done in a few weeks.
I googled if & couldnt find anything very specific. Most of what I found were sites trying to sell me some kind of pillow thing with a picture stitched into it. What Im lookin for is examples (pics?) of stitches, button holes, cuffs, zips & machine stitches. Can anyone help? I would be full of great if you could. Thanks.

If your sister is having problems, I think she should be able to approach the teacher during office hours to ask for help.
Otherwise, she might check out the local library for books on stitches. I have a sewing machine (which I love) but it pretty much does straight stitching so I can't really help you in that aspect. Some expensive machines can do all kinds of different stitches. It really depends on which machine you are talking about. Good luck!

Thanks mike, I think thats what shes looking for.
Plummie, The classes are over right now, So she cant really go to the teacher. Shes got a month or something to finish the project which is making some stuff (i dunno what) & some other junk too. THe problem arose when the teacher started making friends with some of the students & then in class spending all the time talking/helping out those people & pretty much mot having any time left to help the others. I had this same prob when I did a web design course a few years ago. I hope my sister shines in spite of this drawback & I wanna help any way I can. Im sure Mikes link will help & thanks for the input.

Magpie, man, seriously, hit the library. they'll have some good stuff for her, I'm betting. esp on buttons and the like (god those are bitches).
I assume she's using a machine, so here's my 2 cents on the matter: * you can NEVER pin something down too securely. and ALWAYS use pins. * also, always take those pins out just before you sew over them, because when you break your last sewing needle on a pin, you will be an unhappy camper. * measure twice, cut once. * good light, and patience are both godsends. use both liberally. good luck. |
