I want to make an internet porn site. I've made a couple commercial web sites, but nothing like this. Anybody out there doing this? I'm looking for all the details, from what camera to buy to servers to service providers.

All suggestions welcome. :)

Ok, so you send the models to my place for an afternoon, I take all the pictures for you and send them to you free of charge. I've got a 3.3 megapixel digital and a community college photography class under my belt.

well most of the more professional sites will blacklist the login/pw if multiple ips are connecting from it, so that shouldnt be an issue. its all about word of mouth, so prepare to spend a lot of time making friends and getting your name out.

haha it also helps to live in so cal or miami as it seems thats where the majority of porn gets shot. with the same models over and over again with different websites. or so it seems, or maybe i just watch too much porn hehe.

Not sure if your talking soft or hardcore, but I really like the idea of cumfiesta.com. Basic premise, one guy fucks a ton of amateur girls who are not pornstars. Its not staged, or scripted and it is really unique material. I mean, the setup is most likely staged, but it eliminates all the bullshit acting, its just hard sex.

Sounds/is harder than you think from these posts that I am reading.. I think you'll need quite a bit more than $5000 to start a porn site.. Because you need to pay the models, pay for bandwidth, pay for the set, etc etc..

It really doesn't cost _that_ much. Most of the "cost" is in your own time.

Learn Perl & Linux and you'll be alright.

Programming cost is more than you think. There is a LOT involved in setting up the online billing, etc. Additionally, you have to be prepared for massive charge-backs to the merchant account, etc. even once you have located one that will handle "adult" oriented transactions. It's amazing to me that the businesses don't want to have their names associated with pornographic material, but the overall benefit is immense, if you consider how much of the internet $ is made from "adult" entertainment...

Some advice that is, hopefully, practical:

Olympus makes some of the best still cameras out there, both film and digital. Their digital storage media are usually easy to access and can be purchased with good, large amounts of storage space.

I'm not sure, however, how much money there is in still shots these days. With digital video being pretty darn cheap, that's the way that most sites worth their salt are going.

Make members have at least one special character (&, %, $, et al.) in their passwords. You should save yourself a lot of brute force hacks that way.

And lastly, the common sense suggestion: if you can get it for free, take it. If someone you know with a skill offers to give you a hand, accept. ;) You knew that already, though.

Dude, I don't know where you live, but I gather it's not in California or Miami and that for one is an advantage. I am a consumer of porn and not a "developer" but I agree with emopwr that there are too many sites with the same girls. Basically I think if you get real(!) amature girls (and I mean the kind that did not get a boob job and full body hair removal) you would be looking into some serious crowd.

I'm also thinking of starting my own site. Something small though. I live in miami though so I guess that's a disadvantage when looking for talent? All I know is that I have alot of homework to do.
