Have 1,200 lbs of mortar mix.. Ideas?
For all you handymen and women out there:
I have 20 bags of 60lb dry mortar mix lying around (OK, stacked up in a pyramid). Any one have any ideas what I should do with it? Open to any outdoor application suggestions. Thanks! |
Make some cool furniture or a sculpture. :)

Build yourself a bomb shelter:p

Speed bumps on the Interstate

Shed with cinder blocks

I was actually thinking of some sort of structure. But, a statue of a naked woman always intrigued me..
Too bad I suck as an artist. Any other helpful ideas? E-Bay would be funny though. |
half a ton of mortar mix.
There are so many things you could do with that in the line of revenge...forget construction...destruction is so much more fun! fill in someone's swimming pool re-pave their driveway (with the car parked in it) making sure to neatly mound it up around their tires just scatter it around in someone's lawn and wait for it to rain close off their door/windows encapsulate their [ car | bicycle | mailbox | pet | young sibling ] stack the bags up in the back of someone's pickup truck...especially good if they have a tonneau cover. They'll wonder why they have to tromp so hard on the gas... stack the bags in the doorway of a store so the door can't be opened (house doors open inwards but business doors must open outwards (fire codes)) |

hide the bodies.

Build a bomb shelter.

I am going to start making concrete tables and such. Mold it, and put some cool legs on the side, it'll be rockin. Or for a better touch, get it polished. But the equipment for that is $$$ I am thinking of getting mine done at a tomb stone carver.

Open up a birdbath business.
Call a local mason and offer them up the bags for $.25 on the dollar (they pick them up.) |
I used 1/3 of the mortar and mixed it with cement and gravel and put up a wall on a hillside. After that cures and concrete pad will go behind it.
Pretty much making a small two person patio to kick back on. I like the concrete table idea... more likely I will make a bench.. Thanks for the tips |
Damn, you already used it... there goes my idea for the "Space penis". A monument capable of being seen from outer-space... a testiment for all of man-kind...

-Go to a lake or other place where you can find a bunch of large, cool looking rocks.
-Take a truck-load of rocks home with you. -Build wall with rocks. Actually did this with my dad when I was a kid. It's easy, looks better than cinder-block, and will improve the property value of the place by a couple grand. |
cinder blocks are good to put up the "guts" of the wall. always "veneer" it with something nice... stones, stucco...
I still have 2/3 of the mortar left, I think I can build a concrete bench that can be seen from the international space station. |
Empty the bags into a sandbox.Let the kids play with a hose in it .Have some nice statues to put in the garden.
|
i like the fill swimming pool idea
|
try to make money on it. Home Depot or Menards will take ANYTHING back for ANY reason. You could at least get store credit for it and buy something useful with the cash. if it's the regular mortar mix you'd get around $100 in store credit.

only time I've ever used a significant amount (don't think it was that much though!) is building a brick retaining/decorative wall at a house I used to own. Was my first bricklaying attempt and it was relatively easy as long as you keep it simple.
|
I second the sculpture idea..
Preferably nude! :) |
Haha, I'd definetly try to build something sweet out of it, like a stone wall (wouldn't cost you anything), or a new structure for storage (find some old building and steal cinderblocks ;))

Concrete shoes...thats all I have to say.
