are you allergic to cats, or perhaps embalming fluid?
|
;)
Well done obediah - yup, major cat hair allergy. Sneezing everywhere on getting near the box. Hope ppl enjoyed it! |
Congrats obediah. Great riddle cliche, but I'm still kicking myself for not getting it!
|
Heh some of these riddles get pretty ridiculous.
Some of them are based far too much on guess (or more likely remembering the answer) then solving the problem. Here's a great example: A man dies in his own home |
Well done, Obediah!
I hope you're going to give us some more information on that last one...'a man dies in his own home' is hardly a remarkable circumstance. |
Well the box question is like a good one for Yes/No analyzing, man dies in home is not.
|
Obediah - what makes it a puzzle? Did he die in his own home, surrounded by adoring family, with gradually furring arteries that caused a big heart attack sometime during the night? I'm confused :)
|
i contend its a jack in the box
|
I was confused by that one as well. I have a list of several hundred riddles, and that was about the lamest one. Perhaps it was a typo, because it does make sense (and become rather easy) if you add a few qualifiers to it:
A man dies of thirst in his own house. |
chained to a bed, partner had heart attack? (or is that the plot of a Steven King novel?)
|
Or the house is a houseboat?
Water, water everywhere but nowhere a drop to drink?? |
allergies, thats good.
A woman is found dead in her car, with bullet wounds in her chest being the cause of death. The car itself was locked up tight, all the windows rolled up, and after extensive forensic testing police found traces of gun powder inside the vehicle. Knowing that there are no bullet holes on the outside of the car, how did she die? |
she shot herself, or was shot, then placed in the car (and then sent for a dip in a big river...)
|
Is it a convertible?
Did she have the windows down when she was shot, but the car is one of those posh ones that helpfully closes everything if you forget? |
convertible is correct. you are THE SMART
|
mathmo had the correct answer for my riddle.
Here's a fairly easy logic problem with the details changed to make googling a bit harder. If you've heard it before or use the web, please refrain from posting the answer for those that want to work through it. There is an isolated village of people, some of which have green stars on their forehead. There are no mirrors in the town, and people don't talkabout the symbols. The stars can not be found by touch. Anyone that finds out they have a star, must kill themselves before at dawn the next day. A visitor comes to the village, and makes a comment about seeing a star, but doesn't mention how many or on whom. Six days later, a number of bodies are found after dawn. How many? and why? |
all of them out of fear the that they might have one and decide to take teir own life
|
Does the answer have to do with the number of days later the bodies were found?
|
I think the stars one is going to take a while to solve, so here's an easy one.
Being a stranger in town a man asks the local gas station attendant where he can get a haircut. The attendant tells him there are two barbers, one at each end of town (it's a small town). The man walks into a barbershop at one end and is immediately disgusted. The place is a mess. Magazines strewn about, hair clippings covering everything in site, even the work counter was in complete disarray. When he got a look at the barber it was even worse. The barber had a smock on that looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks. He was sporting one of the worst looking beards ever and his hair looked like someone had used a butcher knife to cut it. The man immediately left and went to the barber at the other end of town. This barber shop was so clean it looked like you could perform surgery on the floor. The barber was wearing an immaculate white smock with pressed creases. He was clean shaven and had a perfect hairut. As soon as the man saw this he left and returned to get his hair cut at the first barber. |
the stars one, the visitor is only human, and like most people, tends to stare at the oddities of other people, and so the people with stars realized that they had them because the visitor would never look them in the eyes, the visitor always stared at thier foreheads.
|
on the haircut one:
if there are only 2 barbers in town that means the clean guy cut the dirty guys hair, Since the clean guy had a nicer hair cut, that means the dirty guy cuts hair better. |
Ding, ding, ding. Wasn't too tough. I just always liked the story.
|
Good Riddle
|
The star riddle does have to do with the number of days until bodies were found.
The visitor gave no indication what-so-ever as to who or how many people had the markings. |
obediah, did the visitor stay in the town for those 6 days?
Were any other bodies found in the meanwhile? Did the visitor make any further comments about the stars between his first comment and the suicides? |
Is the color of the stars relevant? At first you mention that they're green stars, and from then on they're only called stars.
|
If I didn't see any stars, I'd surely have to kill myself the next day (because I know there's at least one). So if there was only one, they'd have been found dead the day after the stranger made his comment...
On that day, anyone who only saw one star should have to kill themselves before next dawn (there would be two of them) - as they'd both know they had a star. Day after, anyone who saw two stars (three people). etc. So (assuming by 'six days later' you mean, on the sixth morning following the comment) I reckon there were six bodies found.... ? is that the right way to look at it? |
What single english word could you use to describe a male steer that has just swallowed an explosive device?
What word describes the scene after the explosion? |
bull-something?
|
oh...
abominable ;) The scene afterwards - splattered? gungy? bulldozed? |
Yes, abominable. Keep trying on the second. Think of the bull.
|
bull-asted (blasted)?
terri-bull? |

While everyone's working on this enjoya-bull puzzle:
A man is driving his car to work. He turns on the radio and listens for a while, and immediately spins the car round, goes home and shoots his wife. Why? (nb this isn't the same as the last one) |

cow. A bull is a he-cow, and a steer used to be a he-cow.
|
oooh riddles... i cant believe ive missed out so far, ive known alot of them.
lets see on the car one... is it the radio or is it a casette? did whatever he was listening to reveal something about his wife that he didnt know? that she was having an affair with him? oooh i got so many riddles, heres a shorty but goody: I went out into the woods and got you. Then i sat me down to look for you. I couldnt find you, so i took you home. what are you? |
radio.. hmmmm.. if its different.. and he is promted to kill his wife..
its his wife on the radio calling KC KAsem (spelling) doing his thing and she is making a dedication to __________(insert male name here)_, that is not him. He assumes she is having an affair and kills her. |
Foopius2 - Listening to radio, not tape. And it revealed his wife was having an affair (not with him, that wouldn't be an affair! ;) )
BrinlyNoya - He doesn't hear his wife[/b] |
Foopius2 - it's not something like 'nothing' is it? Or 'myself' - like trying to "find myself" in the woods?
|
Cliche, does he hear someone making a dedication to his wife?
|
TIO - not a music show
|
ok.. its like a talk radio show, and the guy is listening, and the radio guy (would it still be a dj if they aren't playing music?) says they are going to call Sandy Blahblahblah (the man in the car's wife) when they call, a man answers the phone. THIS makes the guy in the car thinkhis wife is having an affair.
|
Are we going to reveal the answer of questions that everyone has given up on?
If so, I'd like to hear the answer to obediah's riddle about the stars on the forehead. |
no, my riddle actually has an answer.
lets see, was the affair revealed somehow because the dj was not the usual one? or because maybe his wife is the dj and she told him she was goin to work but it wasnt her? |

2. News update confirming a lie making him go ape shit 3. Soviet sleeper agent hearing his obscure trigger and going ape shit 4. Is he just insane? "I like this, ahh...I think I'll go ape shit and kill my wife! *chk-chk*" |
and if my last answer wasnt right, is it the particular song that gives him a reason to kill his wife?
|
hes obsessive compulsive, hearing the wrong music station, he knows his wife been driving HIS car, viens popping he goes and shoot her. and then changes back to his normal radio station.
|
I think Brinlynoya has it close enough - well done!:
He's listening to a radio competition; he recognises his home number as 'the winner' and a man answers the phone. obediah - was my answer to the star one any good? |
Cliche - your answer for the stars riddle was correct. The riddle can be solved for any number of days by induction.
|
umm Foopious2 your one is a prickle, like in your foot, right?
|
aahhh... well done gobman - that one had me stumped! (despite getting two splinters over the last week!)
|
BentNotTwisted what is the answer for the post bull explosion scene??
ex___ble ??? |
ooh i like this riddle
what is the next like? 1 11 21 1211 111221 312211 13112221 |
and mathmo it could be 'explodable'
|
the stars one has my brain hurting....
An easy one An out of shape middle aged man goes into the doctors to get a checkup. He is put on a plan of diet and exersise. Is he now more or less likely to get alzheimer's desiese? |
Shpoop - is this about pairs? so...
1113213211? 89transam - I think the evil doctor may have increased his chances :) Prostate cancer too... |
Shpoop I thought of explodable, but the word was meant to describe the scene after the explosion, whereas explodable (to me) describes the action as opposed to the after-effects. Perhaps I'm just being a pedant....
|
Cliche looks to have the answer to Shpoop's puzzle to me, so how about this one:
The following words share a common feature, what is it? CALMNESS CANOPY DEFT FIRST SIGHING STUN |
transam, is that actually a riddle? Or just a trivia/general knowledge question?
Double consonants, mathmo? |
TIO Not quite. It's a little more than that
|
mathmo - is it that they all contain pairs of letters adjacent in the alphabet?
edit: sorry, triplets of adjacent letters! I would have tried to be subtle and add some more but I can't think of any. edit2: I guess hijack? |
Well done Cliche, they all contain triplets of adjacent letters. You could add Afghan, somnolent, ..
It seems most other triplets don't really give any solutions. |
ok... this one might piss people off because i dont exactly know the answer
What two signs are always found side-by-side in libraries? and it isnt closed and open people have said to think literally and think very broadly on the meaning of signs. some people have said that you dont need to concentrate on the word libraries, and others have said that it wont work with one libary, but you need multiple libraries |
mathmo - "other triplets don't give any other solutions?" - what other triplets? what solutions?
edit: ohh - you mean that a lot of triplets don't contain vowels? |
Shpoop - "books in" and "books out"?
edit: I'm sat in the hospital library at the moment, looking around frantically... I think people are looking at me funny edit2: I think I might have got it! And if so... you do need to focus on the word. And it only works with multiple libraries. |
cliche I mean triplets like bcd, cde, xyz. You can't find words with those triplets in, unlike lmn, nop, rst and so on. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Edit: Ak, I see you have just edited your post, but it's not quite what I meant. Shpoop Entrance / Exit? |
You are going in the right direction on the bull story. Think carefully about the phrasing of the second question "What word describes the scene after the explosion?" Another 24 hours, then I'll give you the ultimate hint.
|
AAAH CLICHE its killing me!
if u think u have it but dont want to spoil others, PM me for teh love of god! I have been thinkin about this for so long but cant find a library... and im sure u know by now, but its not books in books out |
Sign definition:
1. anything that indicates the presence or existence of a fact, event, quality, or tendency; indicator; indication. 2. conventional mark or symbol that stands for a word or for the thing or process signified by the word. 3. a printed direction, advertisement, warning, or the like, usu. mounted on a surface or on an upright support. 4. a gesture or expression intended to communicate a meaning; signal. 5. something that indicates a future event or condition. 6. a remaining indication; trace. Whew, who knew? Hope this helps someone else, I haven't got a clue. |
BentNotTwisted - I think that list misses one...

Ah, I've got it. I don't know whether to say...
As a hint, think of the number 12....(too subtle??) |
Another logic puzzle:
A hospital director recently confirmed that many of the people admitted to his hospital were not ill at all. They were perfectly healthy, yet they were given hospital care and treatment. Why? |
Pregnant women?
|
Yes, fell sooner than I expected. Ok another:
A music program on a radio station finished exactly 8 minutes earlier than it was scheduled. An embarrassed official gave the explanation for this mistake. What was it? How long was the program supposed to last? |
Quote:
You people are thinking of the wrong "signs" |
Nice one, Nefir :)
Mathmo, my guess is that it's an two-hour-long pre-recorded program, which is meant to start at half past the hour and finish half past the hour, with 2 news breaks (on the hour) in the middle. This radio station started the program on the hour, and therefore only had one news break (I know, it's a lot of typing to get the answer completely wrong, but it's worth a shot :P ) |
TIO Good try, but I'm afraid it's not right.
|
The record was supposed to go for a half hour. But since the record (remember those days) was played at the wrong speed. Instead of the correct 33 1/3rpm it was played at 45rpm.
|
Yes, well done BonesCPA that's right!
|
Hey, all. Here's one that I didn't see on any of the posts:
Scientist find two people buried in the ice in Antarctica. After unthawing them and studying them, they conclude that these two people are Adam and Eve. How do they know that? |
Must be that neither of them have a belly-button. And perhaps Adam has a scar on his chest...
|
Must be the fig leaves :)
|
Yeah, it was the belly button. You guys are gooooood. ;-)
I just thought it was a fun one! |
how bout this one
When is four half of five? |
when you take the letters iv, roman numerals for four.
|
dexlargo - wouldn't that make five half of four?
I guess four is half of "four+one" |
No, iv is half of five. 'five' is four letters long so take away the first and last letter of the word 'five' and you have 'iv', which is half the length of five, so it is half of five, and also means four in roman numerals.
I should have explained that better before. |
Okay here is an easy one:
A butcher I know is six feet, two inches tall, wears a size 12 shoe and has a 17 inch neck. What does he weigh? Also an old one: Bob and Sue are dead on the floor beside a table, surrounded by broken glass and water. The window in the room is open. How did Bob and Sue die? |
they are fish and he weighs meat...
i will edit this one when i remember another good one -edit: okay: there are 100 coins in a room, each which have one black side and one white side. They are placed in two piles one of 90 black side up coins and one of 10 white side up. An old, blind man comes into the room. He can do whatever he wants. He is told to make sure that each pile has the same number of white side up coins. How would he do this? |
He should take the smaller pile and flip it over.
|
Okay, I've got another one:
A man goes to work, misses the last bus and goes home happy. What happened? |
dexlargo - did the last bus crash?
|
No, but he is happy because he missed it.
|
yea he missed it and it got a flat tire and got delayed or broke down, or fell off a bridge or got robbed etc, and he is happy because he got home first or safely
TIO: wow, i typed it wrong lol try this: the 90 black and 10 white are in one big pile, how can he be sure to have two piles that have the same number of white coins face up? |
dexlargo - was there someone on the bus he wanted to avoid? Ex-wife/ex-girlfriend/police/creditor etc?
|
Shpoop - he should take the coins out into the sun for a while. Then he can feel which ones are black side up (they'll be warmer). Flip over the ten cool ones, then separate into two piles of any number (as neither will have any white coins) ?
|
No, he didn't know anyone on the bus, that wasn't his concern.
A hint though: If he hadn't missed the bus, he wouldn't have performed his work properly, and probably wouldn't have been able to go home. |
Ah ha ha ha. I think I have it... I hope I'm right. Is the person a stunt motorcyclist??
So he clears the last bus??? |
